Kobe and Vanessa Bryant: Definitely Not 2009's Version of the Cleavers

"Leave it to Beaver" is an iconic television show about life in the 1950's in suburban America. The father works all day to provide for his family while the mother stays at home to clean, cook, and perform other duties for her two sons.

The Cleaver parents taught respect and morals to their children, and life always seemed pleasant in the household.

Oh, how nostalgic we are for the old days.

In recent news, Kobe and his wife Vanessa Bryant are both being sued by their former housekeeper for "wrongful termination," according to the L.A. Times.

The Times article explains that Vanessa was completely horrible to the housekeeper, verbally harassing and humiliating the 48-year old Peruvian immigrant Maria Jimenez.

Jimenez reports working 60-hour weeks cleaning and doing laundry while Mrs. Bryant called her "lazy," "slow," and "a liar." At one point, one of the Bryant's children went to Jimenez for compassion, which allegedly sparked Vanessa to yell, "I don't want you to touch my baby!"

Jimenez's lawsuit says that Vanessa embarrassed her in front of Kobe, the Bryant children, and fellow employees. Jimenez told Kobe she wanted to quit, but he persuaded her to stay on.

On one reported occasion, Jimenez was instructed to dig in a bag of dog feces to find the price tag of an almost $700 blouse which she had accidentally cleaned in the washing machine. Jimenez refused and was forced to work to pay off the price of the clothing.

When I first heard of this story, honestly I was hoping for more dirt to sling on Kobe, but there is none. Instead, it seems his wife is the one that shall have poo flung in her direction.

Vanessa Bryant is nothing more than a trophy wife and a gold digger. She obviously has no life other than putting on make-up, tanning, and getting her hair and nails done.

The only reason anyone has even heard of Vanessa is because she has Kobe so whipped that he bought her a $4 million ring after his adulterous affair in Eagle, Colorado.  Vanessa took the opportunity to cash in on a huge rock when Kobe made a huge mistake.

Gandhi put it best when he said, "Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's need, but not every man's greed."

Vanessa came out of that situation looking like she cared more about diamonds and greenbacks than anything else. But now, Mrs. Bryant looks even worse.

Assuredly, this is a complex issue, but it can likely be traced back to socioeconomic status.

The Bryants, wealthy from Kobe's great play and endorsement deals, are in the uber-elite class, living in a mansion with many cars. They obviously have enough money to easily afford servants.

Maria Jimenez, on the other hand, is likely a person of middle or (even more likely) lower class. She works an insane amount of hours to support herself (if not a family as well) and still gets barraged with verbal and mental attacks from her employer.

Is it fair that Jimenez has been forced to sue for $20,000 worth of unpaid overtime, an amount that Kobe makes ten times over in the course of one game?

It seems here that the problem lies in Vanessa's abusive personality and that Kobe was acting as a mediator of the situation. The $4 million ring spoiled the misses forever, as she believes she has ultimate power and say.

This lawsuit should be a quick wake-up call for the gold-digging L.A. soccer mom-from-hell.
