The New Orleans Saints and head coach Sean Payton have reportedly agreed to a new contract, according to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it will be a five-year deal.

It is uncertain how much the contract is worth, but we will have all the updates when they become available.

The 49-year-old Payton hasn't coached a single game this season, as he is serving a one-year suspension for his role in the bounty scandal. He wasn't allowed to negotiate a new contract with the Saints until November.

Assistant Joe Vitt has served as interim coach in Peyton's absence, leading the Saints to a 5-4 record since taking over in October after his own six-game suspension.

In his six previous seasons with New Orleans, Payton has a regular-season record of 62-34.

The Saints won the Super Bowl under Payton in 2009-10, and the team has totaled double-digit wins in four seasons during his tenure. Payton's playoff record with New Orleans is 5-3.

Despite his absence this year, the Saints have a chance to finish with a .500 record. The 7-8 Saints will play their season finale Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.

After an 0-4 start, the Saints have won seven of their last 11 games, including their last two.

Once again, it's quarterback Drew Brees leading the charge. Brees leads the NFL with 4,781 yards and 39 touchdowns. In his last two games he's thrown seven touchdown passes and zero interceptions.

With the Saints finishing the season strong and Payton set to return next year, New Orleans looks ready to make another playoff run in 2013-14.
