Derrick Griffin is a 6'7", 210-pound recruit who hails from Rosenberg, Texas. He played his senior year of football at Terry High School, where he led the Rangers to a 9-4 record and a deep run in the Texas state playoffs.

Rivals has Griffin ranked as the third-best wide receiver in the country and the fifth-best player in Texas. The rankings at 247 Sports have Griffin as the fifth-best receiver in the country and sixth-ranked player in Texas. While both Rivals and 247Sports list him as a 4-star receiver, 247's composite rating puts Griffin in 5-star territory.
