Manchester United may have an inside track on one of the hottest starlets of the transfer season. There are two major factors that could help land Wilfried Zaha with the Red Devils in the January transfer period.

Sir Alex Ferguson has had his eyes set on Zaha since early December, and was even willing to loan the youngster back to South London as long as they can win his services, per the Mirror.

Zaha is extremely important to Crystal Palace on the pitch. He seems to be improving every match, and he has five goals this year.

With Crystal Palace sitting fourth in the championship table and ever so close to promotion, the willingness to loan Zaha back will be huge. That flexibility could go a long way in determining his landing spot.

The Red Devils are smart to proactively seek what could be an impact player in the near future, and to keep him away from EPL rivals Manchester City and Arsenal.

The latter may have shot themselves in the foot as far as an acquisition of Zaha goes.

Arsenal head man Arsene Wenger reportedly angered Palace head man Ian Holloway with his public discussion of the young prospect. Per the Mirror, Holloway fired this retort after hearing Wenger's desires to acquire Zaha:

"I don't think anybody who manages any other club should actually admit who he likes and what he should be doing. I think that's totally bad etiquette. He can say what he likes but about his players, not mine."

This friction between decision-makers obviously works in Ferguson and Manchester United's favor. The bad blood would seem to make negotiations of a transfer difficult for Crystal Palace and Arsenal.

Because of the dynamic currently surrounding Zaha, Ferguson should be aggressive in pursuing what could turn out to be a valuable starlet of the future, but also an addition of depth in the present.

Antonio Valencia's back injury has the Red Devils' medical staff concerned, per the Mirror, and Nani is expected to depart the United side in January.

If Valencia is forced to miss time, and Nani leaves as expected, those two events could create a noteworthy void in the United lineup. Acquiring Zaha could be one of the most important transfer wins Ferguson secures in the last few seasons.

He must continue to be aggressive until he gets his man.
