AJ Lee is officially crazy again.
After rising to the top of the WWE as a bona fide lunatic over the summer, the WWE somewhat scaled back AJs psychotic tendencies when she became the Raw General Manager.
But after screwing over John Cena at WWE TLC and then aligning herself with Dolph Ziggler, AJ is definitely back to her roots as the “crazy chick.”
It’s nice to see, too.
Though many wrestling fans don’t like seeing superstars or Divas essentially revert back to a previous gimmick, AJ was undoubtedly at her best when she was a nutcase who did something unexpected every week.
When AJ was named the Raw GM on Raw 1000, the WWE put a serious stop to all the momentum that she had built up in the few months prior.
Throughout May, June and July, AJ spent her time doing some of the most insane things a Diva has ever done, such as kissing CM Punk before pushing him off the turnbuckle and through a table.
She was a constant presence in main event segments on Raw and sometimes on SmackDown, making a bigger impact on the WWE’s top storylines than any Diva has in the last several years.
For weeks upon weeks, we heard AJ’s catchy, albeit annoying, “Light It Up” theme song hit several times per Raw episode, and what followed was typically very entertaining TV.
Sure, you could make a case that AJ was a bit overexposed. Heck, that’s probably true even to this day.
But, it was a lot easier to watch AJ over the summer when she was “crazy” and when we didn’t know what to expect whenever she appeared on TV, whether that was in a match, a backstage skit or an in-ring segment.
She brought a lot of unpredictability to a WWE that tends to be very predictable at times, and now, she’s back at it as the “crazy chick” once again.
You can call it lazy booking if you want. But I’d call it smart.
AJ had been so watered down since Raw 1000, because the WWE had severely limited her character. Although she’s continued to be a little crazy, it didn’t compare to her levels of craziness over the summer.
But now, she slowly, but surely seems to be cranking the craziness back up.
At WWE TLC, AJ lost her mind once again, turned on Cena and cost him the Money in the Bank briefcase. Now, she’s aligned herself with Ziggler, and everything seems to be going well between the two.
Here’s the thing, though: AJ’s “relationships” with Punk, Daniel Bryan, Kane and Cena didn’t work out. Odds are it won’t work out with Ziggler, either.
That sets the stage for AJ to, well, become even crazier. Every previous relationship that she’s had has ended in disaster, so why should this be any different?
Quite simply, it won’t be.
AJ is now back where she belongs as the “crazy chick” who casts a spell over the man she’s with, only to screw him over in the long run.
That’s the role that led to some incredibly entertaining TV earlier in the year. Now, that figures to happen again.
With Ziggler just one wrong move from setting AJ off, we might just be one show away from some more entertaining craziness.
It’ll all be courtesy of the chick who’s crazy once again, AJ Lee.
