As the January transfer window approaches, Chelsea is sure to be among the big clubs rumored to make a big splash.

The Blues currently sit at No. 3 on the EPL table and should be out scouting what additions will help them keep Arsenal at bay, while also making a run at both Manchester clubs atop the table.

Chelsea is one of the best clubs in the Premier League, but holes remain on the roster that can be improved. With deep pockets and a desire to win, it's a sure bet that these needs will be addressed once the transfer window opens on January 1.

Need: Forward

When Fernando Torres came to Stamford Bridge, he was expected to be a grand slam signing right away. He's heated up recently, but overall, he's been considered a disappointment.

At a big club like Chelsea, the forward position should be occupied by a star, and Torres hasn't consistently given the attack the type of dangerous scorer it needs.

Even if the club continues to go with Torres, another prolific goal scorer would give the Blues some extra punch on the attack and make them a much more dangerous club going forward.

Players That Could Help

Radamel Falcao, Atletico Madrid

If Chelsea really want to make a big splash in the transfer window and make a serious run at the title this season, Radamel Falcao must be brought into the fold.

The 26-year-old is a dynamic scorer with 17 goals in 16 La Liga appearances for Atletico Madrid this season.

Falcao has all the makings of a legitimate star if the Blues are able to pry him away from Atletico. Falcao is the kind of exciting transfer that would have fans buzzing right away.

Gonzalo Higuain, Real Madrid

Higuain may not be as high profile a signing as Falcao, but he would be a huge addition to the roster.

The value in signing Higuain would be his versatility, as he is capable of playing midfield as well as forward. The 25-year-old Argentinian is the kind of scorer and passer that would make everyone better on the attack for Chelsea.

Higuain isn't the pure scorer that Falcao is, but he might be more inclined to join the Blues because he plays a smaller role for Real Madrid than Falcao does for Atletico Madrid.

Need: Midfielder

Chelsea has been playing Oscar at midfield a lot recently, and the 21-year-old has filled the spot admirably.

However, the Blues may be looking to upgrade the position with a more experienced player. Adding another midfielder to the club could be just what it needs to take the squad to the next level.

The defense also could use a boost at midfield so a versatile midfielder would make the team much more well-rounded.

Players That Could Help

Paulinho, Corinthians

Signing Paulinho would not only be a great move for this season, he could also be a fixture in the lineup for years to come.

The 24-year-old Brazilian is excellent for Corinthians. His ability to contribute scoring, while also holding down the middle for his team makes him one of the club's best players.

Paulinho would offer more depth in midfield for Chelsea and offer the club great versatility.

Marouane Fellaini, Everton

Fellaini would be a great addition to the Blues' roster.

The Everton midfielder is versatile enough to play either midfielder position and would give the Blues help on the offensive and defensive ends.

At 25 years old, he has plenty of years of good football ahead of him, which would give the club a young player to replace some of the older stars on the team.
