The San Diego Chargers hit the road in Week 16 to take on the New York Jets and came away victorious, winning by a score of 27-17.
The Chargers jumped out to an early lead when Micheal Spurlock returned a punt 63 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter.
The Jets responded with two touchdowns—both of them one-yard runs by Shonn Greene—to open up a lead on the Jets in the second quarter.
Philip Rivers struggled to find many open receivers, completing just 11-of-22 passes for 165 yards, but his two touchdown passes to Danario Alexander and Antonio Gates in the third quarter put the Chargers up for good.
Greg McElroy suffered through a miserable day, as he was sacked an incredible 11 times by the Chargers and threw one interception.
Kendell Reyes tallied 3.5 sacks, Shaun Phillips pitched in with 2.5 and Corey Liuget brought McElroy down twice. It was a complete bloodbath, as the Chargers' defensive line outplayed the Jets' offensive line in every conceivable way.
The Chargers improved to 6-9 on the season and will host the Oakland Raiders in Week 17, while the Jets fell to 6-9 and will hit the road to face the Buffalo Bills next Sunday.
