The Carolina Panthers held serve at home in Week 16 against the Oakland Raiders, winning an ugly game by a score of 17-6.
Cam Newton passed for 170 yards, throwing one touchdown and one interception, and he added 60 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Steve Smith scored the game's only receiving touchdown in the first quarter when he hauled in a 23-yard strike from Newton. He finished the game with four receptions for 45 yards.
Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer was knocked out of the game early in the second quarter with a rib injury, forcing Matt Leinart into action.
Leinart finished the game with 115 yards and one interception, completing just half his passes in the process.
Further compounding the Raiders' problems on offense was the fact that Darren McFadden and the rest of the running backs couldn't get anything going, and the team finished with just 47 yards on 22 carries.
The Panthers improved to 6-9 on the season and will travel to face the New Orleans Saints in Week 17, while the Raiders fell to 4-11 and will hit the road to face the San Diego Chargers next Sunday.
