The season hasn't even started yet and already there has been a lot of controversial issues. But one of the most serious and one that threatens to overshadow the season opener, is the row of the legality of the rear diffusers used by Brawn GP, Williams, and Toyota.
Ferrari, Renault, and Red Bull have officially lodged protests with the Australian race stewards after all three teams in question had their cars cleared to race following Thursday's scrutinizing. The remaining four teams, McLaren, BMW, Force India, and Torro Rosso, are also considering making an official complaint and no doubt will by the end of the day.
The seven teams are unhappy over the design of the rear diffuser used by Brawn GP, Williams, and Toyota as they believe their diffusers are larger than allowed under regulation 2.4 in the rule book, therefore giving them greater down force.
According to the BBC Toyota have brought an alternative diffuser to Melbourne as they knew of the impending row and they could, if necessary, race with that.
If the protests are successful any points collected by those three teams would effectively be provisional until a definitive ruling is decided.
There have always been regulations with grey areas which are open to interpretation, but let's hope the FIA do the right thing and give a verdict before they go racing.
