LeBron James briefly lived in infamy upon leaving Cleveland for South Beach. There was a miniature infamy within the tidal wave of anger, though. That was Dan Gilbert, predicting that the Cleveland Cavaliers would reach a title before King James.
The assertion was ridiculous on its face, looked like it had a chance after the 2011 draft (Kyrie Irving was worth the hype) then ultimately got proven wrong when LeBron James secured his first championship last summer. The lesson, apart from "don't say crazy things," is that such proclamations can come back to haunt you—or at the very least, make you look silly.
With that in mind, we try to handicap a Lin versus Knicks race to an eventual championship. Houston and New York once met, back in the 1994 NBA Finals. Now, they're in a more abstract, protracted race. The Knicks might have the better record for now, but who will win in the end?
