With the 2012 edition of WWE’s Tables, Ladders and Chairs (TLC) pay-per-view scheduled for Sunday, it’s time to break down the midcard battles that everyone is excited for.

For once, the WWE has actually done an admirable job building these feuds up and trying to get fans to care about the midcard; the build has gone swimmingly.

With three very interesting matches on schedule already, this is how the best midcard bouts on the TLC card will shake out.

Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston vs. Wade Barrett

As much as the Wade Barrett fans will hate this, Intercontinental champion Kofi Kingston will retain his title Sunday. While this is a step back in the short term for Barrett, it’s the best move right now for both men’s careers.

Kingston has looked excellent as the IC champion, and his reign has built up his credibility. While he still needs to work on his mic skills, this victory over Barrett validates the reign and, to an extent, the Intercontinental Title.

As for Barrett, the loss here proves that he is not going to be around Kingston’s title very long; there are much bigger plans for the English star in the future.

While Barrett may not be around the World Heavyweight Championship until after WrestleMania 29, he will be in the main-event scene from the Royal Rumble on.

Prediction: Kofi Kingston Retains

U.S. Champion Antonio Cesaro vs. R-Truth

While R-Truth remains one of the more underrated talents on the WWE roster, he will lose once again on PPV, but this time it will be to put over one of the brightest young stars in the WWE, United States champion Antonio Cesaro.

Cesaro has been on an absolutely torrent pace over the last three months, and he appears to have the support of the management behind the scenes because of his deceiving size and his immense strength.

With as much in-ring talent as almost anyone on the roster—coupled with a gimmick that has the potential to be something special—and Cesaro has a very bright future in the WWE. If he stays in the favor of management, Cesaro will be a main-event star within two years.

That push to the top continues with a win over R-Truth Sunday.

Prediction: Antonio Cesaro Retains

Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara vs. Team Rhodes Scholars

Despite remaining one of the biggest fan favorites in the company, Rey Mysterio has fallen out of favor with the WWE brass and another loss in the midcard will further prove that Mysterio and Sin Cara are not the future of the WWE.

With yet another huge win and a further push for the team of Damien Sandow and Cody Rhodes—Team Rhodes Scholars—the ascension to the top of the tag division is almost complete.

The next feud on tap for the Rhodes Scholars will be facing off against the newly strengthened Kane and Daniel Bryan—Team Hell No—and that could be a long-term battle that brings reverence back to the once vaunted tag team division.

Prediction: Team Rhodes Scholars Wins
