Full time at Anfield
Liverpool 1 Aston Villa 3
Great result for Villa who go five unbeaten; Liverpool lose at home for the first time since the Manchester United match in September.
Benteke (2) and Weiman scored the goals for the victorious away side, with only a late Gerrard consolation for Liverpool to show for their undoubted superiority on the ball. In the final third and with regards to invention and ability to trouble the goalkeeper though it was a different story and Villa have finished well on top.
90+2'—Liverpool pressing forward to the end, but they are almost out of time now. They will be very disappointed to have lost this game, no mistake. Terrific result for Villa though.
Three minutes to be added on at Anfield.
On replay, it did not look a handball after all from that latest effort. We're into stoppage time now.
88'—Benteke is shown a yellow card for a scuffle with Glen Johnson. Didn't look much in it. Liverpool trying to press forward again in search of an unlikely late turnaround.
Suarez then shoots from outside the box and it very much looks like a penalty on first glances for hand ball, but the referee again turns down Liverpool appeals. Suarez is then booked for his protests.
Glen Johnson cuts inside once more and flashes a low shot over, which Gerrard dips to get his head to and diverts into the far corner past Guzan. The original shot might have been going in but it's Gerrard's goal, and Liverpool finally on the scoresheet. 1-3.

GOOOOOOAAAALLLL!!!!
Liverpool 1 Aston Villa 3
Steven Gerrard, 87 mins
Aston Villa sub: Bannan off, El Ahmadi on.
83'—Johnson's backheel sets Suarez free inside the area but Baker gets across to challenge the forward. From the resulting corner, Cole flicks the ball on but it just floats past the back post and wide for a goal kick. It's been a disappointing second half display from Liverpool, who had their half time optimism wiped out quickly with that third Villa goal.
81'—That about sums up Liverpool's day. Sterling and Downing combine nicely down the left and the latter gets in a low cross, but Agger's shot is horribly miscued and he slices his effort back in the direction of the corner flag.
79'—INCHES AWAY FROM A FOURTH. Bannan collects the ball on the edge of the Liverpool area and shoots; his effort hits Weimann and goes completely the opposite way, wrong-footing Reina, but the ball bobbles wide of the near post. Almost 4-0.
78'—Sterling continues to try and forge is way through the Villa back line, but it's just not happening for him today. Suarez and Gerrard haven't been involved this half, while Cole's impact has come at the other end.
75'—The free kick hits the wall, bounces off the feet of another defender and is cleared. Liverpool just haven't tested Brad Guzan enough today. Or at all, even. Disappointing for the home side considering their excellent start.
74'—Concerted pressure from Liverpool but still Villa are standing firm—until Delph scythes down Sterling just outside the area. Good chance for Suarez to shoot straight on goal.
71'—Nice play from Johnson and Sterling but the final ball just isn't there. In the end a chipped cross from the latter goes straight into Guzan's gloves.
69'—Aston Villa sub: Delph on for Brett Holman.
68'—A little over 20 minutes to go. If Liverpool have any lingering hopes of a big comeback they are going to need a first goal pretty sharpish. Villa still defending very compactly in numbers.
66'—Agger breaks forward and tries a fierce low shot from 30 yards which is swerving away from Guzan, but the American goalkeeper does well to drop low to his left and hold onto the ball.
64'—Not sure how, but Liverpool haven't managed to put the ball over the line. Suarez's low free kick was stopped buy Guzan, Henderson had a shot, Allen was there too...but eventually the away side clear and they retain their clean sheet for now.
63'—Huge shout for handball in the Villa area after Johnson wins a header, but again the referee is unmoved. Sterling bursts past Lowton and goes to ground just in the area too, but a free kick is signalled on the edge. Great driving run from Sterling.
61'—Good tackle from Herd on Suarez to concede a corner. Gerrard's ball over reaches Skrtel, but his header misses the top corner by some distance.
59'—Joe Cole looks for his second league goal in a week with a half-volley but it's hit just wide.
Liverpool sub: Jordan Henderson on for Lucas.
58'—Suarez is onside as he gets in the box and he tries to find Gerrard, but Clark gets a touch on the cross and deflects it close enough towards his keeper so that Guzan can evade Gerrard.

56'—Liverpool simply not getting the ball forward with any conviction now. They have numbers in the final third but the passes are more hopeful than expectant at the moment; the Reds looking rattled by that third goal. Guzan isn't happy with a challenge from Suarez in the air but there was nothing wrong with it.
54'—Cole gets into space down the left side but his cross is cut out and cleared. Weimann bursts past Lucas on the counter and shoots from outside the area, but Reina this time makes a comfortable save.
