Barcelona is the best team in world football on paper. When injury-free and in form, the Spanish side would be expected to beat any opponent.

Since Pep Guardiola took over the club, they have excited viewers with their brilliance on team and individual levels.

However, despite all of their strengths, Barcelona still has deficiencies within the squad, namely in defense.

The club's lack of quality options in the center of defense is the major negative in the squad's makeup.

Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique have struggled with form and fitness for the majority of the last two seasons.

Players like Javier Mascherano and Alex Song have been used in their place this season. They are defensive midfielders by trade and have had their good and bad moments in the position.

The youngsters, such as Marc Bartra, have not been used much due to their lack of experience.

This is where the good news comes in for Barcelona fans.

According to, the Blaugrana is becoming increasingly interested in signing Borussia Dortmund's Neven Subotic.

With Puyol increasingly aging, and the coaching staff seemingly unwilling to trust the younger players, a new defender is needed.

Other options have been touted in the past, such as Alberto Botia (per, but if Subotic is a possibility, Barcelona should get him.

The Serbian defender would fit in well with the Spanish side and would good be complement Pique well. Here's Sky Sports Scout's breakdown of the player.

Subotic would be a good buy for Barcelona, but it would certainly be a tough capture for the Catalans.

Puyol's time is coming to an end, and Bartra may not be ready next year. A quality defender would increase Barcelona's strength, and Subotic would certainly be a good option.
