Rumor has it that Rick Pitino has recently just closed a deal for a home in Tucson, Arizona.
Now why would such a high profile head basketball coach purchase a home in a town that has a top basketball program that also happens to be “quietly” shopping around the country for a high profile coach?
One might wonder. It is also interesting because Pitino’s current team, the Louisville Cardinals will be playing Tucson’s very own Arizona Wildcats in the Sweet 16 on Friday.
Lets look at the top five reasons Pitino would buy a house in Tucson.
Rick is a snowbird, flying south for the winter. But basketball season is during the winter? That would be convenient if his job were in Tucson, otherwise that commute is going to be a bitch.
Tucson has world-class golf courses and has the weather to play year round. I could see Pitino buying a house just for golf trips.
Yeah, that makes sense with all the recruiting that has to be done for a division I program, he for sure has time to take a ton of golf trips.
I don’t know about you, but it looks like Coach could use some sun. That all-white suit he rocks would be perfect for walking around Tucson. White reflects the sun, so he would stay cooler. Plus it’s a dry heat.
Old folks like warm weather. Arizona is a retirement destination. But Rick is from New York, wouldn’t he want to retire in Florida? So why would he buy a home in Tucson?
Because honestly people, Sean Elliot, Steve Kerr, and Mike Bibby are not walking through that door. Lute Olson isn’t walking through that door. But Pitino might.
