When these division rivals meet, we can throw the records out the window. And when considering the seasons that these two teams have had, one could throw out the television as well.
Oakland failed to meet even modest expectations, given its run with a first-year head coach and a 32-year-old retread at quarterback. But Carson Palmer isn't solely to blame for this team's woes. Darren McFadden got off to a slow start, and the defense gave up plenty of points against opponents; the Oakland Raiders have allowed 21 points or more in 11 of their 15 games this season.
The San Diego Chargers were expected to give Peyton Manning and the Broncos a run for their money, but it never happened. Philip Rivers has been woeful from Jump Street, and nobody else clad in thunderbolts has been able to pick up the slack. The Chargers organization is expected to clean house at season's end, and neither head coach Norv Turner nor general manager A.J. Smith can count on coming back for 2013.
