Quick, if you were starting a franchise, which young QB would you build around?
I think most NFL fans would say Robert Griffin III or Andrew Luck without missing a beat.
You could probably find a few NFC West apologists who argue for Colin Kaepernick and Russell Wilson, given they are leading teams headed to the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Cam Newton is fresh off one of the best rookie seasons in history, yet seems to have trickled out of the franchise cornerstone conversation.
Part of this speaks to our infatuation with whatever is new and shiny, but it’s also a testament to just how far Superman has fallen in his sequel season.
No one doubts Newton’s talent, but questions abound about his consistency, leadership, maturity and now (according to CBS Sports) his reputation among his fellow players.
Funny how a 72-yard TD run and victory over the best team in the NFC can make that all go away. Check out this week’s Most Improved Player video to see why the hate on Cam has gone too far.
