Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New Orleans Saints: Battle Between Two Flailing Teams

Josh Zerkle@JoshZerkleChief Writer IIIDecember 10, 2012

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-7) have lost three straight, despite impressive performances on offense from Josh Freeman, Vincent Jackson and rookie running back Doug Martin. The young defense has disappointed down the stretch in Greg Schiano's first year on an NFL headset.

Although most would pen Tampa Bay as simply being "a year away" from a postseason berth, a win here would give the Bucs a 7-7 record and an outside shot at snagging one of the NFC's two wild cards.

The New Orleans Saints (5-8), meanwhile, seem to have taken their foot off the gas after an impressive midseason run. After winning three of Joe Vitt's first four games back after Bountygate, they've hit a three-game skid of their own.

Drew Brees has thrown nine interceptions in that span. That's a horrid performance for any quarterback, let alone a perennial Pro Bowler upon which his team's hopes and dreams are pinned.
