January Transfer Rumors: 6 Christmas Wishes for Manchester City

0 of 6

It has been a rough last week for Manchester City as they were knocked out of the Champions League after finishing last in Group D and lost at the death to Manchester United in the Manchester derby on Sunday.

After the loss on Sunday to their bitter rivals, the Citizens are now six points behind United in the title race.

There is no doubt that City will be looking for reinforcements in the January transfer window to bolster their roster.

City have shown in the past that they are willing to spend large amounts of money to bring in the world's best players with this January being no different.

Here are six Christmas wishes that City fans and players are hoping to come true when the January transfer window opens on New Years' Day.

Daniele De Rossi to Finally Make the Move to Manchester

1 of 6

No one player has been linked to Manchester City more than Daniele De Rossi has been over the past year.

The Roma midfielder has been on the City radar ever since Roberto Mancini took over as manager of the club, and this January, De Rossi may actually move to the blue side of Manchester.

Last week, there were reports that suggested De Rossi was given clearance to leave his hometown club in January for the defending EPL champions.

Those reports come just a few weeks after Roma general manager Franco Baldini claimed that De Rossi was not going to be sold in January.

The scenario at both clubs is perfect for a potential sale of De Rossi in January as Roma have plenty of depth in midfield, while City need another player to accompany Yaya Toure and Gareth Barry in the defensive midfield of the 4-2-3-1 formation.

If De Rossi does make the move to the Etihad Stadium, it will conclude a transfer saga that has appeared in every transfer window during the Mancini era.

No More Balotelli in City Lineup

Time after time this season, Roberto Mancini has decided it was a good idea to start Mario Balotelli at the forward position.

On most of those occasions, the controversial Italian has been unproductive on the pitch for City, with the latest incident coming on Sunday when he stormed into the tunnel after being taken off in the second half.

Since his arrival at the Etihad Stadium in 2010, Balotelli has earned more attention for his off-field antics than his talents on the pitch.

City do not need a distraction like Balotelli around as they prepare to hunt down Manchester United for the EPL title.

According to recent reports, there is a potential market for the much-maligned Balotelli in January, with both Milan clubs and possibly Juventus interested in the forward.

Potential Move to Steal Falcao Away from Chelsea

Atletico Madrid's Radamel Falcao is the biggest player available in the January transfer window.

The one club that has been linked with the Colombian forward for the past few months has been Chelsea.

Chelsea reportedly have sent an assistant of owner Roman Abramovich to Madrid to discuss the potential terms of a deal for Falcao.

However, there are also reports that Falcao's move to Stamford Bridge may be off if Fernando Torres gets back into form.

If that is the case, Manchester City could potentially make a move for Falcao, who the club have plenty of interest in.

Falcao would most likely replace Balotelli in the Citizens squad, and he would be the third South American forward to be on the books at the club along with Argentina's Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez.

A Move for Young Star Isco in January

4 of 6

One of the names that has been linked to Manchester City on a constant basis has been Malaga playmaker, Isco.

Isco has filled the spot in midfield left by current Arsenal player, Santi Cazorla, at the beginning of the season and has gained plenty of attention for his play.

Isco is a versatile player who would play in the center of the attacking trio in the 4-2-3-1 formation that Roberto Mancini puts out on the pitch.

A move for the 22-year-old Spaniard will also be a move for the future, as City look to stock up on the best young talent in Europe to continue their new-found success for quite some time.

Shakhtar Donetsk Star to Come to City Instead of De Rossi

5 of 6

Manchester City could potentially go after a player at the defensive midfield position that is not named Daniele De Rossi.

The player that would be favored instead of De Rossi would be Fernandinho's Shakhtar Donetsk

A report from over the weekend claimed that Fernandinho will be playing in Manchester when the month of January comes around.

A move for the Brazilian may make more sense for the Citizens, as he would come into the club during the winter break of the Ukrainian Premier League.

Bringing in a player with fresh legs instead of one who has been playing since August may be a better option for City, as they need every one of their players to be in top form during the final months of the season.

Young Players Coming into the Squad with Plenty of Potential

Another route that Manchester City can take in January is one that would bring in younger players from across Europe to develop them into first-team stars for the future.

City showed that they were willing to do just that in the summer when they brought in Scott Sinclair; 23, Jack Rodwell; 21 and Matija Nastasic; 19, into the club.

Other young players that City have been linked to in the past few months include Crystal Palace's 18-year-old starlet, Wilfried Zaha, and Kurt Zouma, who is an 18-year-old defender playing for Saint Etienne in France.

Bringing in younger players may not be a popular strategy amongst City fans, but it would give the club a chance to bring in a group of players for the same amount of money that they would use on a superstar like Falcao.
