Cincinnati Bengals at Philadelphia Eagles: Preview and Predictions

Josh ZerkleChief Writer IIIDecember 9, 2012

Cincinnati will face its second straight opponent out of the NFC East. If it can't handle Philadelphia on a short week, it might find itself out of the playoffs.

The Cincinnati Bengals (7-6) dropped a game they should have won in Week 14, losing to the Dallas Cowboys on a last-second field goal amid a litany of miscues. With the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers both losing, the damage to Cincinnati's postseason hopes was minimal. But the Bengals coming up short against another contender at home, one could wonder if this team has the mettle to make any sort of run at the Super Bowl, especially against the AFC's other notable contenders.

The Philadelphia Eagles (4-9) snapped a losing streak of eight games with an impressive Week 14 win against Tampa Bay. Rookie quarterback Nick Foles threw early and often in that game, a formula that seemed to work against one of the NFC's better teams. With Philadelphia's playoff hopes dashed and head coach Andy Reid in a lame duck status, the Eagles are playing for their jobs, and in Foles' case, the starting quarterback job in 2013.
