After an impressive performance against Michael Farenas, Yuriorkis Gamboa needs to start thinking about his next match.
Contract disputes caused a gap of over a year since the Cuban's previous match against Daniel Ponce de Leon. It is important for Gamboa not to go through that again.
In order to keep advancing his career, El Ciclon de Guantánamo should look to set up these matchups.
Gamboa got a late start to his professional career after defecting from Cuba. However, he has built up an impressive resume by winning all 21 of his fights.
Adrien Broner is also undefeated at 25-0, yet he is only 23 years old.
He most recently won the WBC lightweight title, and he has the skill to defend it for a long time.
However, a matchup between him and Gamboa would raise the profile of both of these talented fighters, with the winner becoming one of the best young fighters in the world.
The Indonesian fighter has not done a lot of fighting inside the United States, but he has dominated the boxing scene for over a decade.
As the WBA super featherweight champ, he has been able to successfully defend his title over and over again.
The problem is that he is 33 years old and at the tail end of his career. He does not have many bouts left in him, and it is unlikely that he will want to risk his legacy with a tough battle with Gamboa.
If he does, however, it would be one exciting match.
Miguel Angel Garcia
Another up-and-coming fighter, Miguel Angel Garcia has a number of opportunities to prove his ability.
First, he is set to face Orlando Salido on Jan. 19. If he can come out victorious against the veteran, he will be looking to make that next step.
Assuming Garcia can remain undefeated, Gamboa would provide a good matchup. He is great at knocking out his competition and would be up for a big test if he is forced to face the Cuban.
