NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Hornets appeared to be on their way to pulling off a huge upset on Friday at New Orleans Arena, but Monty Williams' young squad was unable to complete its comeback against one of the NBA's hottest teams. New Orleans, who trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half, got as close as 84-83 at the 5:18 mark in the fourth quarter, but fell 96-89 to the visiting Memphis Grizzlies. The crowd of 13,698 saw the Hornets claw their way back in the third quarter, behind a strong defensive effort. New Orleans outscored Memphis 27-20 in the period, using a 12-4 run to close out the quarter.
