IconIt's July 23rd, do you know what your NBA team has done this offseason? If you're a Mavericks fan, the answer is "not much of anything." Which is reassuring, really, because we don't have too many holes...other than a post threat, a true point guard, and someone with shooting range.

Fantastic.

So with that said, the team's best opportunity to improve is from within. And with respect to Devin Harris, the player who we really need the most improvement from, the guy with the best shot of making an impact is Michigan State product Maurice "Moe" Ager.

The team's 1st round pick from 2006, Ager spent most of his rookie campaing toiling in the NBDL. When he eventually joined the team, he spent most of his time rooted to the bench, save for a cameo in Game 6 of the Mavs-Warriors series in which he outscored Dirk Nowitzki, a performance that said much more about The Big Wienerschitnzel than it did Moe himself.

Expect to see a lot more of the 6'6 Ager in 2007. He is a tenacious defender (which coach Avery Johnson loves) but he also has a soft shooting touch and most importantly, isn't afraid to drive to the basket - yet another quality the 2006-2007 team lacked. Most important, Ager's emergence could signal the end of the poorly mismatched backcourt of Harris and Jason Terry; while JET can shoot with the best of them, he is best suited to be a combo guard coming off the bench.

For the sake of the Mavericks upcoming campaign, lets hope that we see Moe Ager, and less problems.
