UFC Lightweight Champion: Lightweight Fighters Pick Henderson or Diaz
UFC on FOX 5 is but one day away now, and the intrigue surrounding the card's main event—a lightweight title showdown between Nate Diaz and Ben Henderson—has reached its zenith.
Leading up to Saturday night's main attraction, several lightweight colleagues of Diaz and Henderson weighed in on the match and provided some insight into how the bout is likely to go down.
Forecasters include Gray Maynard, Anthony Njokuani, Evan Dunham, Joe Lauzon, Donald Cerrone, Anthony Pettis and Vinc Pichel.
Though a few political "it's going to be a great fight, we'll have to wait an see who comes out on top" type answers are thrown out there by the UFC 155ers, the majority pick Diaz. In fact, not one fighter firmly selects Henderson to retain his title.
Given Henderson's role as the favored competitor in this bout, the quasi-consensus that Diaz will pull it out comes as a bit of a surprise. But then again, who knows Henderson and Diaz better than those who have competed against them before?
Maynard, Pettis and Cerrone have all spent time in the Octagon with one of Saturday's two competitors. Whether that qualifies them as prediction authorities remains to be seen.
What do you think? Are these UFC lightweights leaning the right way?
Will Diaz be able to do what Frankie Edgar couldn't and stop Henderson's unbelievable UFC run? Or will 'Smooth" further cement himself as the best 155-pound mixed martial artist on the planet?
