Pacquiao is spread pretty thin between boxing, politics and religion, but it seems he's done a good job focusing on boxing for his fourth fight with Juan Manuel Marquez.
That focus will lead him to a victory over Dinamita on Saturday night. Pacquiao has placed a ton of emphasis on this fight, and for the first time in a long while, you haven't heard a ton of comments about Pacquiao the Congressman or the conflicted Roman Catholic, per Yahoo! Sports.
This time, it's been about Pacquiao the fighter.
I'm not sure how long he'll be able to hold life at bay, though. Pacquiao has evolved as a person, and he just doesn't have the same killer instinct he once had. That's great for Pacquiao the man but bad for Pacquiao the boxer.
That factor makes Mayweather a huge favorite should they ever meet in a super fight.
A fighter only has so many spirited efforts in them, and if Manny rises to the occasion the way I believe he will against Marquez on Saturday, he'll be spent.
As his career progresses from here, it will be increasingly difficult to focus on boxing. Being prepared mentally and physically is necessary, if he plans to remain at the top of the sport.
Pacquiao's desire for political involvement and the spiritual pull on him isn't going to go away. Even if he didn't have these outside interests, the older he gets, the tougher it will be for him to beat the top fighters.
While I see him rising to the occasion to beat his rival Marquez, if he continues to fight on, he's ripe for another upset defeat.
Even if he does get by less than stellar competition from here, he'll never defeat another really good fighter.
Both were unpopular opinions, as this one may be, but the truth can sometimes be a hard pill to swallow. That is especially the case for fans of such a beloved figure like Pacquiao.
In an ideal world, Pacquiao would make this his final fight, and he'd go out a winner. However, I think we all know, he'll fight until someone puts him out. Perhaps that is part of the reason he is so loved.
