The University of Maryland spent less on athletics than all Big Ten teams except Northwestern during the 2011-12 academic year, according to data released by the Department of Education.
Maryland’s expenses totaled $61,936,374, and reached $62,590,020 if including acrobatics and tumbling, one of the seven varsity sports cut this July.
