NBA, Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, NBA Playoffs

This year's NBA playoffs are shaping up to be pretty crazy. I can't wait to see what happens, especially in the West.

It seems like the top eight teams have been separated by four-and-a-half games for the last two months.

The NBA is doing really well right now. However, there will be a lot of angry fans out there if the Finals is a Spurs-Pistons matchup.

Don't get me wrong, I respect the San Antonio Spurs and Detroit Pistons, and what they do on the court. The thing is, no one wants to see Manu Ginobili flopping all over the place, Bruce Bowen and his dirty defense, or a Tim Duncan jumper off the backboard.

It's all about watching LeBron James and Kobe Bryant take over the game, or watching Chris Paul dropping dimes. It’s not watching Richard "Rip" Hamilton running off screens, or Rasheed Wallace and his ridiculous dancing that people want to see.

Picture any of these West teams: Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, Utah Jazz, or New Orleans Hornets, and a picture of either the Boston Celtics or Cleveland Cavaliers for the East.

Any of these teams would make for a better NBA Finals than would the Spurs and Pistons. This year's Finals has the potential to be a dull, slow, boring defensive battle, but it also has the potential to be epic and amazing.

Isn't the NBA where amazing happens? Let’s hope so...

  1. SERIOUSLY!!! If it's Spurs/Pistons again I'm not watching until the last game of the series. Nothing against great defense and great teamwork, but PLEASE NO! Boston vs. Lakers would obviously be the #1 matchup and would the ratings would be off the charts. Cleveland vs. Kobe would be fantastic, especially if one of those two win the MVP. Phoenix in the Finals would be great too.

Oh, and Pistons/Spurs is as good a possibility as any, so we may not have a choice...

  2. I think I'm the only one to love the Spurs/Pistons matchup. I can't get enough of fundamental offense and amazing defense. Yes, I'm serious. I'm sick of the Suns and Warriors running up and down the court at light speed. It's fun, but that style of play should not win an NBA title. It's time that teams and fans started realizing that it takes defense to get it done. Yes, I am actually hoping for a Spurs/Pistons finals.

  3. I have been a fan ofthe '05 finals - more than any of the other finals I ve watched...so, I dont quite agree with this article...

  4. You're not a true basketball fan if you can't enjoy a game of fundamental defense and teamwork.

  5. Jordan you make a great point, "I'm sick of the Suns and Warriors running up and down the court at light speed. It's fun..." It's amazingly fun, exciting, and the way basketball should be why you're sick of it is beyond me, maybe cause you're a fan of an opposing team? But you also made another good point, "but that style of play should not win an NBA title." Unfortunately you're right, that style of basketball HASN'T won an NBA title because neither of those teams play GREAT defense and defense wins championships. Which is why hopefully either the Suns or the Warriors WILL BE in the Finals against Lebron and the Cavs. Because whats more then watching one team run up and down the floor scoring at high speeds while Lebron scores 40 a night? The NBA is entertainment, and to me theres nothing more entertaining then ending the season with Lebron vs. Suns or Warriors.

  6. Scott - u want the suns/warriors and lebron in the finals...the cavs are not quite the run and gun team though...u shd be rooting for a high scoring team in the east..dont u think so?

BTW, suns and warriors are running team, but they DO play defense...just thought I'll throw it out there...

    1. I agree with you Anonymous the Cavs wouldn't be able to keep up with either team as their record shows against those teams this year is 1-3, a better option would be Boston obviously with the Big 3 would put up a better fight, but I was thinking more that the NBA and fans would benefit from having their poster boy face up against a team who runs circles around everyone but lets other teams score a lot as well. Think of it this way, what better way for people who are not local fans of either the Suns or Warriors watch as they AVERAGE 110 PPG, while Lebron averages 35 PPG. As an outsider who are you rooting for? The high scoring team run and gun team? Or the NBA's arguably best player? It would be a loose fun entertaining final.

  7. it doesnt matter who the spurs play...the finals will be boring if the spurs play in it and you know why? cuz thats who they are. just like last year where the spurs played the cavs they didnt let labron have any highlight dunks or go off on a shooting tear. nope they played there game and shut down everything. so no matter if they play boston or any othr team the spurs will shut them down. so for all of those people who think the spurs in the finals are boring then u better start watching a different sport cuz they will be there for a very long time
