Full time in Italy: Udinese 0 Liverpool 1
Once more the Reds should have finished this game off much earlier, but they have at least got the job done eventually. A top place finish did not look too likely after round two of matches when Udinese beat Liverpool at Anfield, but a home win over Anzhi and the win today has turned the group around.
Anzhi, Young Boys and Liverpool themselves all finish level on points in the group and so the Swiss side are eliminated on head to head results between that mini-group of three.
Liverpool top, Anzhi second go through to the knockouts.
Full time in Group A:
Udinese 0-1 Liverpool
Young Boys 3-1 Anzhi Makhachkala
Liverpool qualify top of Group A
90+3'—CHANCE TO EQUALISE! Di Natale is played in and he has one chance to shoot—he drills in the shot but it's flown over the crossbar with Reina flapping. Liverpool have been given a massive late scare—but have just about survived.
90+3'—Jose Enrique concedes a free kick. Last chance of the game for Udinese...Liverpool boot it clear as far down the pitch as they can.
90+1'—Suarez and Downing combine down the left and the latter crosses deep, but Sterling is climbing and the foul goes against him.
Three minutes of added time to be played.
89'—Udinese not exactly desperate to create a chance to equalise here. They're keeping the ball in their own defensive third, until Suarez robs them and drives towards goal. The ball goes behind for a corner, which the Reds play short and look to keep hold of possession.
88'—Into the final couple of minutes now in Udine. Liverpool just a few moments away from reaching the knockout stage by topping the group.
86'—Henderson is down and needing attention after receiving a kick to the ribs from Reinthaler. It was an accidental challenge but free kick to Liverpool.
85'—Udinese sub: Antonio Di Natale on for Ranegie.
83'—Liverpool scramble another set piece clear and try to break, but Shelvey's pass to Suarez isn't deep enough to allow the Uruguayan to run onto. The Reds being careful in possession in these late stages, mindful perhaps of the late equaliser for Young Boys in the last matchday.
81'—And now Carragher is shown a yellow for a very slight foul on Fabbrini. Referee trying to even things up perhaps. Free kick about 25 yards out for Udinese. Liverpool simply must see this out—Young Boys are still winning. An equaliser for the Italians would eliminate Liverpool.
79'—Lovely turn from Sterling to get away from Pasquale who goes ploughing straight through the back of the winger. He is shown a second yellow card and the resulting red. Udinese protest en masse and Badu is booked as well.
79'—PASQUALE SENT OFF FOR UDINESE
77'—Liverpool looking a little anxious now. They've had chances to finish off this game but now, as the final 10 minutes approach, it's looking like a case of digging in to seal the win again.
75'—Liverpool clear the initial set piece but then a woeful attempt at a pass from Downing concedes a corner. Danilo gets up to head at goal but just misses the target at the far post. Antonio Di Natale is warming up for Udinese.
74'—Skrtel this time gives away a free kick because of a high boot. A chance for Udinese to swing the ball into the box from deep.
73'—Skrtel does well defending again. Pasquale and Armero work space down the left and find time to cross, but Skrtel heads out at the edge of the six yard box. The crowd finally trying to raise the players' game, with 20 minutes to go.
70'—Yellow card now for Allen for tripping Fabbrini as he tracked back to help out in defence. Free kick to Udinese.
Liverpool sub: Raheem Sterling on for Suso.
67'—HOW HAS SUAREZ NOT SCORED?! Liverpool should be two up here. Suarez is played in down the right, checks back past his marker, dribbles in towards goal and shoots from just a few yards out, but somehow between goalkeeper and defender on the line they deflect it over. Looks like Padelli just got a hand onto that, good save. Suarez should have scored though and he had Downing in support unmarked on the far post.
66'—Suso is chopped down from behind by Pasquale and he's going to get a yellow card for that. Poor tackle, right down the calf of Suso.
65'—Henderson with an effort! Suso's cross from the left is volleyed at goal by the midfielder, but it's too close to the keeper and Padelli palms the shot over the bar.
Udinese sub: Max Reinthaler on for Benatia.
63'—Udinese's half time substitute Benatia is down injured and looking like he needs some treatment. He went down off the ball and it could be his knee.
