In some of his earliest practices with the University of Memphis, coach Josh Pastner's latest McDonald's All-American was looking for the shortcut. Shaq Goodwin's mind was more focused on when practice would end, rather than anything that took place during it.

There are barriers for any freshman, even those as decorated as Goodwin, at the Division 1 level. But, from his first day on campus at the U of M, Pastner made it clear to the 6-9 big man that much would be expected from him. His approach, in the preseason, would not suffice.
