Several years ago, when the Raiders were at the top of the NFL, they must have beat down every team, showing no mercy.
They must have piled on points even when they had the game in hand. They must have successfully hurt and injured many players on many teams. There must have been so much damage that fans of the other teams felt deep, sincere pain in the core of their hearts.
I have seen a lot of "Hater-ism" through the years, but this has got to be the worst I have ever seen. At a time when most Raider fans are as optimistic as we have been in years, any fan or writer from any other team is fishing for any negativity they can find to put a negative spin on the Raiders.
Whether it be Kiffin's out, or that we spent too much money on free agents, or that the Raiders are the worst team in sports...It's all crap. These haters will get theirs and it will come sooner than they think.
Al Davis has finally had enough. He is determined to make the Raiders a powerhouse in the NFL once again, and he doesn't care what anyone thinks.
I don't care what all the haters think either. The Raiders are on their way back. Our defense will shut down some teams, taking the pressure off our young quarterback allowing our offense to flourish.
So, to all the haters. Look yourself in the mirror and say, "I am not biased about the Raiders, and I truly think they suck.” When your done with this task, close your eyes and picture a silver and black helmet coming in with a swinging motion slapping you right in your hater-face.
Go Raiders! We’re Back!

AMEN bro!!! Well said!!! We will make noise this year, no doubt about it. See many people are forgetting that Kiffin himself said last year (PRIOR TO SEASON EVEN STARTING) that it was a rebuilding year. He got brought in late to be able to put the appropriate staff that he wanted. NONE the less last year was a EVALUATION period so to say. Kiffin called it, that we were gonna hit the free agency hard. Funny how we are doing just that and over spending at that making the most noise in free agent market. That's just phase 1. Wait till season!!! We are back. Period. Last year was OPTIMISM in the mediocre players we had. This year we actually got play makers on both sides of the ball. It's on!

The Raiders have been the target of major criticism for the last five years and largely because they were such monsters previously in the NFL and also because the Raiders are run by Al Davis, probably the most feared owner in the NFL. Heck, I remeber how the 2006 Raiders were about to be named the "Worst Team In NFL History" by these so called experts forgetting the fact that its defense finished third in the league and forgetting that the Bucs, Cowboys of the 70s and 80s finished their season 0-14. Now as the Raiders begin to move forward these critics attack our free agency aquistions calling them way too hefty and lucrative. Well every team overspends in free agency in order to attract the player on to their team and not others. Only time will tell whether the Raiders moves this offseason were worthwhile.

I can tell the Raiders are working to be better. If last year was an evaluation, then this offseason says a lot about what they think of Tommy Kelley or perhaps after his contract he's simply BIG T MONEY..
My observation was along with Kiffin's opinion that our run defense was HORRIBLE...has been for YEARS. When we ranked in the top five it was for our great pass defense. Thats why although HALL is a great addition..
NEWS FLASH
IT WILL JUST ENCOURAGE AN ATTACK ON OUR WEAKEST MOST SUSPECT RUN DEFENSE
Davis has treated free agency like a visit to an NFL Indian casino. I mean I feel he is a dooms-day prophet and the apocalypse begins in '09. I guess we all feel the pressure after loosing for five years. Lets not forget we lost to the former coach and very popular J.Gruden in the Super Bowl. A man who was allowed to coach and be a leader. I guess the media haters miss him too, they so want to love cold and calculating Kiffin in the same way..(' please mug and like us- Nancy Gay) Its easy to wonder of the 'what ifs and could be's'. Interesting note- those four picks we received for Gruden didn't quite net a return.
The present is the same as always Al Davis's flashes his wallet. A high risk and high reward venture. Perhaps a JaMarcuss can be a savior of the silver and black mankind with his new age stature of big and even freakish bigger arm. One day in a near bizzare future we might test for robotics if Russel can Leader the Raider Fans to a Lombardi Trophy next Feburary. Maybe Russell to Walker combination will produce winning touchdowns late in close 4th quarter games. Yes once again expect a lot of close games and a protected lead could be the difference. How many times did our offense take the lead in a close game only for our defense to give up a score? Was it every time? Of course bad calls are a part of Raider Nation but when did giving up so many rushing yards? Can I slap big.ughhh...try to recall his name, Oh yeah Terdell Sands !!!! on the side of the helmet to wake him up? Thanks for coming, I guess. You should not have friends on the team because your too big and invisible.
A serious consideration has to be Ellis for an upgrade or at least some added depth up front. Jake Long would be a great investment and actually make sense. Davis will select McFadden and everyone in Raider-land, including me, will be excited for the newest flashy toy. I would be more impressed if they had resigned Namdi long term. Sure we come up short and not be able to trade for Hall but #21 is homegrown, he even went to Cal. I guess in Al's crystal ball, Burgess will not be here next season and Richardson will be the end to get to the QB. Ghostlon could be our choice #4, especially since Chris Long will be long gone to Miami with the number one. He is that good.
Add Dilfer's experience, Newberry's leadership and J.Cooper for his special hitting talents. And for godsakes I hope Al doesn't use JROD's Raider Tattoos as contract leverage. I mean how can the guy put another uniform on with his Raider ink. Pay the man Al..pay them all but please pay Kiffin to coach this team back into the playoffs. Believe it, I AM IN, and AL can have all the credit and restore his Silver and Black Legacy or lead us into the a black hole of irrelevance.

Since I'll be immediately discredited as a Charger fan anyway, I won't go into any analysis of my own, but I would love to hear responses to one question:
Beyond the likelihood that they can't get much worse in terms of wins and losses than the past couple years, are there any specific REASONS why the Raiders will be significantly better in 2008?
Let me acknowledge that Russell looks like a solid QB for the future, Kiffin will have another year to install his program and Hall is a good addition to be sure. But the most thoughtful comment on this "article" comes from Eric and he doesn't seem all that optimistic.
P.S. I would LOVE to hear PTown justify his prediction in particular! :-)

SEAN... An answer to your question... on why the Raiders will be better in 2008.... We have new weapons in our arsenal... We have players motivated to win...We have tradition to restore... We have a lot of people to shut up out there... The haters will hate us even more. The Silver and Black attack is back... Just Win Baby!!!

Can you guys imagine if The Raiders didn't agressively attack free agency and put the dollars out there? The "Haters" would be screaming profanity at us even louder.
So the Raiders go out there and get a bunch of helpful free agents and drop some cash and all the non-Raider fans/writers are screaming bloody murder. There is no win with those guys.
We simply have to Win games and you will hear a "hussshhhhh" throughout "Haterville".
***and remember, Kiffin said at the end of the season that we are not done, we will aggressively attack free agency and the draft and get the Oakland Raiders back to supremecy.

Ryan...you are right, wins will always silence the crowd. I did want to clarify that I'm not hating here, just asking for some more clarification. I agree that the Raiders will improve in 2008, and perhaps beyond, for the following reasons:
1. The past four seasons leave a lot of room for it, the Raiders are a proud franchise and the NFL is built for parity.
2. The defense is good and will keep them in games, so a little luck here and there will go a long way.
3. The overall talent level has improved.
What I don't by is the "tradition to restore", the "arsenal of weapons" and the defense "shutting teams down". The tradition thing is just silly. The "arsenal" is really only an upgrade at WR (Walker over Porter), improvement of Russell and Miller, and possible emergence of Bush...and keep in mind there was a pretty long way to go. And finally, while I love the individual players like Howard and Morrison and Kelly, the front seven has yet to show it can generate any significant pressure...and until they do, it doesn't matter who you have at CB.
In short, I see 8-8 as the high end of the range this year, with 6-7 wins more likely and anything less meaning another coaching change. And the top range will not happen if they take a luxury item like McFadden instead of building their lines with someone like one of the Longs. Maybe I'm just reading into the tone of your article and other Raider fan posts, but it sounds to me like some expect a much bigger season than that...and the reasons for THAT kind of optimism is what I'd really like to hear.
