After an offseason mired in the Bountygate scandal and having to go without their leader in Sean Payton for the entire season which, of course, led to the ridiculous situation of having two separate men leading the team over the course of the 2012 regular season, the New Orleans Saints are ready to look toward next season and write 2012 off as a learning experience.
Matt Miller and I put the Saints on the clock and look at what their major needs are on both sides of the ball. It's pretty clear that they are in need of a talent infusion on defense. It wouldn't be surprising to see general manager Mickey Loomis go nearly all-in during the draft on defense, much like Bill Belichick and Ted Thompson did last year.
On offense, the one major area that seems in need of an upgrade is along the offensive line, particularly at offensive tackle. If one of the top prospects fell into their laps, I don't think the Saints would hesitate to upgrade the position with their first pick.
Let us know in the comments below where you think the Saints need to concentrate in the draft and if you agree with our assessments above.
