UFC on FOX 5: Why Having a Diaz as UFC Champ Would Be Great for MMA

Jeremy Botter@jeremybotterMMA Senior WriterDecember 3, 2012

Nick Diaz squandered his potential chance at UFC gold last year by not showing up for scheduled media appearances to promote his fight with Georges St-Pierre. The St-Pierre fight would fallen through regardless, because St-Pierre's injury put him on the shelf for another year. And then Diaz lost his second attempt at UFC gold, this time to Carlos Condit for the UFC interim title.

On Saturday night, little brother Nate gets his chance at UFC gold when he faces lightweight champ Benson Henderson on Fox. Diaz is considered an underdog for the fight, but he still has a good chance of walking away with UFC gold.

And that got me to thinking: what would it mean for the UFC to have a Diaz as a champion in one of its many weight classes?

In my latest video for Bleacher Report, I take a deeper look. Check out the video, and then let me know in the comments below: do you want to see a Diaz as a UFC champion? And what would it mean for the promotion?
