The St. Louis Rams and San Francisco 49ers needed overtime for the second time in four weeks, but this time there was a conclusion. The Rams won in overtime, as rookie kicker Greg Zuerlein made a 54-yard field goal to seal the deal.
The 49ers had a couple of opportunities to win the game before that kick, as Delanie Walker dropped an easy touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter, and David Akers missed a 51-yard field goal wide right in overtime.
Rookie cornerback Janoris Jenkins scored his third touchdown in two weeks on a bad pitch from Colin Kaepernick to Ted Ginn, and Sam Bradford hit Lance Kendricks on a successful two-point conversion late in the third quarter to tie the game 10-10.
The Rams also capitalized on a Kaepernick mistake when he failed to throw the ball past the line of scrimmage while in the end zone—a play which resulted in a safety.
Kaepernick ended the game with 208 yards passing and 84 yards rushing, but his two key mistakes fueled the loss.
The Rams improved to 5-6-1 on the season and will travel to face the Buffalo Bills in Week 14, while the 49ers fell to 8-3-1 and will host the Miami Dolphins next Sunday.
