There are times as a writer when you have to relax, take it easy and look for an interesting story readers will still read and enjoy. With that in mind, I present to you an entertaining look at RG3 versus Super Bowl MVP—a different look at Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III and New York Giants QB Eli Manning.
RG3 won the Heisman in 2011-2012. Manning placed third in 2003-2004.
Manning was the first-overall pick. RG3 was second.
NFL Rookie Contract
Manning singed a six-year, $54 million contract. RG3 inked a four-year, $21.1 million deal.
NFL Rookie Year
RG3 is re-writing the record books for NFL rookies. After his NFL debut, RG3 was named "NFC Offensive Player of the Week" as well as "NFL Rookie of the Week." He was the "NFL Rookie of the Month" for September 2012. He leads all QBs in rushing categories.
Manning was not as prodigious.
He was benched in his fourth game as a rookie starter after posting a 0.0 passer rating in the game. His rookie season was rocky, at best.
RG3 has deals with Subway, Gatorade, Adidas and Nissan, to name a few. He also has been named the most-endorsed NFL rookie in history.
Manning gets paid to endorse Oreo, Citizen Watch, Toyota and Reebok.
Late-Night TV Appearances
Manning hosted Saturday Night Live and made guest appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno once and Late Night with David Letterman twice.
RG3 has appeared on Leno and Letterman one time each.
2012 NFL Jersey Sales
RG3 is tops for the 2012 season. Manning is fourth.
Please. RG3 has a cult following and even handed out socks at Halloween.
In a recent WWE appearance, RG3 was awarded a championship title belt as the "4th & Pain Champion."
Manning appeared in an episode of The Simpsons. His voice and likeness were used.
Manning does not have a Twitter account. RG3 has over 500,000 followers.
Manning, although his page looks untouched and there are no indications he follows Facebook, has 664,000 "likes."
RG3 updates his page with photographs and musings and boasts 265,000 "likes."
Bigger Controversy, 2012 Season
In Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Manning went down on one knee to run out the clock, giving the Giants the victory. Tampa's defense came through the line and aggressively knocked him to the ground.
In his NFL debut against the New Orleans Saints, RG3, who endorses Adidas, covered the Nike swoosh logo on his warm-up shirt with what appeared to be a black magic marker.
As a fan of the NFL, your favorite team and players, it can be an overwhelming task following every imaginable statistic you can think of. Then they create new statistical categories. At times it is too much.
Hopefully, with this article and its intent, you can enjoy the mundane yet interesting "factoids" on the two Monday Night Football quarterbacks in Week 13 and remember they still have to put their pants on like the rest of us.
That said, enjoy a classic and always-intense NFC East division rivalry with much on the line as the 2012 season enters December.
The Giants-Redskins game airs December 3 at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
