The Longest Mock Draft in NFL History Continues...
I’ve been a little behind schedule recently.
Not to make excuses, but I've had a few personal situations over the last week and just haven’t had the drive to spit these things out.
Hopefully, now that everything is kind of behind me, I can start delivering the rest in rapid-fire mode.
After all, the real draft is just around the corner!
Pick No. 24: Tennessee Titans
I’ve made no bones about the fact that I think Vince Young is overrated.
He isn’t a great passer, he can be contained by NFL defenders, and he doesn’t throw or score touchdowns. His production numbers were so bad that it’s a miracle the Titans snuck into the playoffs last year.
That said, if you’re going to throw the guy out there and call him your franchise quarterback, you might as well get him someone to throw the ball to.
Really, it’s a credit to Jeff Fisher that he was able to get anything at all out of that offense in 2007.
The signing of Justin McCareins gives him a wide receiver who at least deserves to be in the NFL—which might be an improvement over anything the Titans had last season.
As for Alge Crumpler—now that was a fantastic addition. Crumpler gives Tennessee an immediate impact player on offense, which I’m not sure they could have gotten in the draft.
His addition also allows the Titans to look in another direction in the first round. I still expect them to add a wide receiver, but they no longer have to reach if one of the top-three guys isn’t there at the 24th pick.
Instead, they can focus on defense.
Albert Haynesworth is an absolute monster in the middle of the Titans' D-line, but when he’s out their entire defense falls apart. They need a guy who can step in and hold his own when Haynesworth isn’t in the game.
Having someone to play next to him and draw some of the double-teams away would be nice as well.
The Pick: Kentwan Balmer, DT, North Carolina
If you believe the mock drafts all over the Internet, Kentwan will drop down somewhere into the middle of the second round.
I don’t buy it.
When you’re a defensive tackle with size, strength, and talent, you don’t usually drop into the middle of the second round. When you’re a team in need of a defensive tackle picking late in the first round, you jump at someone like Kentwan Balmer.
I know most people in Tennessee want a wide receiver, but if you look at the Titans' 2007 season, it was the games Haynesworth missed that cost them a higher seed in the playoffs.
Balmer will impact them immediately on the field. I’m not sure any of the WRs still available in this mock draft will offer any immediate rewards.

i think your right about abert
we relly on him to much. i think we could be the number 1 defense in the nfl .( the only good offense
is because of a good defense. with vandan bosch, and kerse on ends and hainsworth and possibly sighning another tackle with bulluck and our griffen in the secondary with the efforts of our ohter talented defenders we could shut down a patriot or colts offense.
i think the coaching staff of the titans need to get vince another pro receiver on the other side of mccarrens and just let vince be the scrambler out of pocket player that got him rookie of the year.
i think the titans are great as good as any with coach hymerdinger bringing in a more play action offense other teams hate play actions so we need to take advantage of this offensive move .as far as the draft i say grab a receiver if we can but if it comes down to a receiver or a d-linemane , i say get a
tall big and muscular front man aside hanesworth to split the double team

im a long time titan fan, but i really do not think that the titans need another defensive player. the only reason that the titans made the playoffs this year was because of their defense and the reason they were sent home was because the could not score vs. san diego. the defense held a very tough sandiego offense. i am one of the very few who belives vince young is not overrated, but needs weapons put around him. sure it was not smart to go back to school when a new playbook is right in front of him, a BIG playbook. however he needs guys to throw to. if you are looking for proof that vince young can throw, go back to week 3, vs the saints.

Tennessee will take over the AFC south this year once they draft Sweed, you don't think that Vince is Campaigning the management to do whatever is possible to pick up hi still. "Favorite Target."

Defense is not the way to go unless the top 3 recievers are gone by the time the Titans are on the clock. We still need a solid corner to compliment our run defense. Our corners continue to look lost and get beat on a regular basis. How about Pacman and our first second round pick for Marion Barber??

Dan hit the nail on the head...try to get one of the top three receivers. If they are gone consider defense. Vince is not overrated, he just needs someone to throw to. I really like the Crumpler acquisition and and moderately happy about McCariens coming back, though he has been immensely disappointing the last few years. The bottom line is that Vince needs a guy who can be a number 1 receiver. He will never be successful until he has that.
