Golden State Warriors forward Harrison Barnes saw Timberwolves center Nikola Pekovic standing between him and the bucket, and he did not care.
He rose up and then up some more, and finally up one final time before extending over the 6'11" defender and throwing down with one-handed authority.
Barnes made an astute and strong cut off the ball and flashed to the open space. He got the ball at the right time and Pekovic started moving over at the wrong time.
Had Pekovic been given a moment to contemplate the insane athleticism of Barnes, he may have decided to not fill the lane. Instead, he rotated over, as he should, only to be the victim of what is sure to be one of the best dunks we will see all year.
The crowd at the Oracle Arena instantly went nuts. This dunk had the feel of one of Blake Griffin's two iconic dunks where he rises way up and comes down with one hand, but actually throws the ball through the hoop. Barnes was able to technically dunk this effort as he yanked on the rim after the finish.
I'm not sure if he should get extra points for this, but I am sure this was a head-turning effort.
Barnes is enjoying a wildly erratic rookie season thus far, but he has certainly been flashing the immense potential that led to the Warriors drafting him seventh overall in the past NBA draft.
He came into this game averaging 10.8 points per contest while shooting a respectable 46.9 percent from the field.
