The Great 8: Ovie Reaches 50

Eric NaughtonCorrespondent IMarch 20, 2009

Congratulations Alexander Ovechkin!

Last year, Ovechkin became the first player in over 10years to score over 60 goals.

Tonight, Ovie scored his 50th after being stymied at 49 for a couple games.

I knew he would get there and he might even make it to 60 again, in the remaining nine games.

This is a good week for the NHL.  Martin Brodeur won his 552nd game and Patrick Elias became the Devils' all-time scorer in the same tilt.  Today, Alexander reaches a great season milestone.

Now, I hope that people stop giving AO grief for not talking to reporters the other night when he failed to score.  It's a lot of pressure put on him by others, not to mention the pressure he certainly puts on himself.

That being said, I'm sure this will add fuel to the fire over the Hart Trophy.  If Ovie wins again, he certainly deserves it.
