AJ Lee: Ranking Her Romantic Relationships in WWE
AJ Lee debuted on the main roster of WWE a year and a half ago and has had multiple romantic relationships with different WWE superstars whilst becoming the most popular diva.
As we divulge into AJ’s various relationships in WWE, we will discuss the impact it had on his or her career and the entertainment value WWE fans received as a result of the relationship.
Prior to the promotion to the main roster, AJ Lee spent time on the third season of NXT as a rookie. Relationships during this time are valid and debated.
Let’s take a look at AJ Lee’s six different romantic relationships in WWE.
Unfortunately, whenever Hornswoggle is involved, people will be disappointed.
This was the case when WWE decided to put AJ Lee in a romantic relationship with the little leprechaun on NXT.
This relationship impacted both careers very minimally. The former version of NXT was only beneficial for a few individuals (Wade Barrett and Season 1 participants in particular).
Hornswoggle’s career can only go so far. His highest moment will always be looked as being the final WWE Cruiserweight Champion. AJ’s career still had not taken off at this point.
AJ Lee’s relationship with Hornswoggle was anything but entertaining. It was not humorous, interesting or valuable for anyone in WWE. It was borderline disgusting.
Hornswoggle was not AJ’s only romantic relationship during her time on NXT.
In fact, when AJ first joined NXT, her pro was none other than Primo.
I can understand why WWE decided to do this. However, Primo has never been more than a mid-carder and now tag team specialist. AJ Lee looked phenomenal as usual, but not on Raw or SmackDown yet.
AJ Lee and Primo were somewhat entertaining during their relationship.
I wouldn’t necessarily say they were funny or exciting, but certainly an interesting pair.
AJ was then eliminated, but returned during the season finale in six-woman tag match involving the Bella Twins teaming with her against Alicia Fox, Aksana and Maxine. As such, not all relationships are meant to be.
4. John Cena
Although the relationship between John Cena and AJ Lee seems to be just getting started, let’s divulge into the impact and entertainment value of the pair.
Both Cena and Lee have to be considered top draws in the WWE right now. Neither necessarily needs it to improve their career, but it definitely does not hurt it.
Whether the relationship storyline is due to John Cena’s recent divorce is anyone’s guess, but it makes sense for WWE to take advantage.
While there may be folks who dislike the storyline because it doesn’t have much to do with wrestling, I don’t want to see John Cena as WWE Champion right now. Is the John Cena-AJ Lee relationship entertaining?
This part is still very much to be determined, but if it helps AJ and Dolph Ziggler’s careers, then why not?
Kane’s relationship with AJ Lee was in the middle of a strange love rectangle involving CM Punk and Daniel Bryan as well.
Kane certainly doesn’t need to help his career at this point, but the relationship did keep Kane’s character fresh and relevant.
AJ also benefited from this relationship with her entertaining backstage segments with Kane and her dressing up as Kane as well.
It was also quite entertaining to see Kane in this type of situation.
We have seen Kane dating divas such as Lita in 2004. However, he played a much less evil character who at times showed love. Kane was distracted by AJ during the No Way Out triple threat match for the WWE Championship.
AJ seemed to just be using Kane and didn’t see him as a long-term boyfriend unlike the remaining two on this list.
2. CM Punk
AJ Lee invested a lot of time pursuing and showing interest in WWE Champion CM Punk.
We even got the “I dig crazy chicks” catchphrase on a T-shirt.
It seemed like WWE could have done a lot more with Punk and AJ. Just before his recent heel turn, CM Punk had mixed feelings about AJ. It was during this relationship, official or not, that AJ was the last person standing as Raw ended on July 2 of this year.
When was the last time a diva was the left standing at the conclusion of Raw?
While Punk and AJ were a great pair and it helped both become more popular, Punk eventually turned heel and became an enemy of the future, yet no longer, Raw general manager AJ Lee.
1. Daniel Bryan
In November 2011, AJ Lee began dating Daniel Bryan.
Mr. Money in the Bank at the time eventually became World Heavyweight Champion and a heel. This caused a lot of poor treatment of AJ by Bryan.
Both AJ and Daniel Bryan’s careers really took off during this relationship. In fact, it was the distraction and kiss with AJ that cost Bryan his World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania in just 18 seconds.
Daniel Bryan began his progression of becoming more entertaining and funny as one of the most popular superstars because of his relationship with AJ Lee. AJ’s time on WWE TV has grown rapidly, starting with her interactions with Daniel Bryan until AJ began searching for a new boyfriend.
However, let’s not forget that Bryan and AJ almost got married before she became Raw general manager. Their wedding was a featured part of the monumental Raw 1000 episode.

Despite having dated as many as six different WWE superstars on screen, AJ Lee’s career has improved dramatically and she is clearly a top draw for a reason. Her great looks, terrific wrestling skills and personality cause WWE to look for her to be involved in main storylines.
AJ Lee’s best way to be involved in the main storylines is by being in a relationship with a top superstar. Hence why her relationships with Hornswoggle and Primo had absolutely no chance. Her relationship with Kane was used as a scapegoat.
Both her relationships with Bryan and Punk were enjoyable, however I would have preferred to see her with Punk a bit longer.
Which relationship do you think was most impactful and entertaining? Which one was the worst?
It’s been me. It’s been me. It’s been the G-U-DOUBLE T!
