Cal disappointed everyone in the Bay area on Thursday as they put on a poor effort against Maryland, losing in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

They were expected to dominate the game with three-point shooting—Cal is first in the nation offensively from beyond the arc, while Maryland is 222nd in defending the long range shot.

Cal instead shot 7-for-24 from downtown. Everyone on Cal had a poor performance, with exceptions for Randle and Robertson. They outplayed Maryland in almost every aspect except for field goal percentage.

Cal had the lead at 51-50, but then instantly fell apart. They started to commit stupid fouls, stupid turnovers, and fell short on the defensive end, too.

It seems that Cal starts trying when they're down 15 with three or four minutes left.

That has only worked once this season, and that was against Washington. Cal has had many moments during this season where it seems like they don't even want to be on the court.

The only player you see a consistent effort from is Randle. He is always trying to get his teammates in it, but they always fall short.

The good news is that it was Montgomery's first year, and look at what he did. He made a crappy team into a Pac-10 title contender.

Also, Cal has no seniors, which looks just a little bit promising.

If you ask me, I'm a little happy that Wilkes is leaving next season.

I've been dying to see that "Max" guy play.
