Houston Texans vs. Detroit Lions: Live Score, Highlights and Analysis
Hannah Foslien/Getty Images
We're underway at Ford Field in a high-scoring affair.
The Texans are looking to continue leading the march to the postseason, while the Lions are looking to save their own march. Winning this game on Thanksgiving would take care of either team's need.
Keep it here in between bites of mashed potatoes and stuffing. I'll be bringing you the action as it happens, starting with the big storylines heading into the game and finishing with the final score and a quick recap (and probably a nap).

Final Score: Houston Texans 34, Detroit Lions 31 (OT)
This one's going to break a lot of hearts in Detroit.
A microcosm of the Lions season, Detroit had countless chances to put the game away, and they just couldn't deliver. They fall to 4-7 on the season, and whatever dim glimmer of postseason hope they had is now long gone.
Matthew Stafford, who has a budding reputation as a clutch player, was anything but today, as he tried and failed countless times to get that one first down that would give the Lions a shot at a putaway field goal.
A couple times, Stafford took a sack to move the Lions outside field goal range.
And the one time they did get close, Jason Hanson hit the right upright from 47 yards away.
The Texans deserve a lot of credit for fighting to stay in this game, and they came up at the right time, earning their first and final lead of the game with just over two minutes left in overtime.
Andre Johnson was likely the player of the game today, with nine catches for 188 yards, including the one that set up the game-winning field goal in overtime.
Arian Foster became the third player to rush for 100 yards against the Lions defense, though no single carry got him more than 15 yards. His two touchdowns were a major factor in today's game.
However, the takeaway from this game, other than the Texans almost guaranteeing themselves a playoff spot and the Lions guaranteeing that they will miss, is that blown Justin Forsett TD.
Now, the "not reviewable because the coach asked for a review" call was the correct one, but the call on the field was egregiously wrong.
Now to be fair, it's entirely possible the Texans could have scored on that drive anyway, so it's not like that's the only thing that happened. The Lions had lots and lots of opportunities to win the game, and they didn't capitalize on any of them.
But expect a whole bunch of discussion about that call as the week goes on, and expect the "not reviewable" portion of the rule to be overturned in the offseason.
And don't forget that none of that would ever have happened if the refs had gotten the call right on the field.
But that aside, it has been a long, hard-fought game, and regardless of the result, it's hard to come away from that not appreciating a great bit of football.
Congratulations to Texans fans, my condolences (and good luck replacing your TVs tomorrow) to Lions fans, and regardless of allegiance, enjoy the rest of your holiday.
Good! Texans Win!
Shayne Graham is going to line up to win it now for a whole lot shorter than last time. The 31-yard field goal now is...

No Good!
Shayne Graham missed one from 51 yards. Jason Hanson can't clinch it from 47 yards.
And we're still playing football.
(4:28 left in overtime)
Tony Scheffler hauls in a first down, and here comes Jason Hanson with a chance to win it.
The 47-yard potential game winning field goal is...

Interception Chris Houston!
No way to describe this game, which is unfortunate, since that's my job right now.
The Lions forced a three-and-out, which was negated by a Cliff Avril offsides call, and then the Texans, with new life, throw an interception to Chris Houston.
The Lions are in good shape, but they still need to move the ball a few yards to give Jason Hanson a chance to win this one.
(6:27 left in overtime)
The Lions stall out at the Houston 45-yard line, and the Lions punt it down to the 10-yard line.
It's Houston's ball, and now they will try to put this game away and enjoy some rest for a change.

No Good!
Graham puts plenty of leg into it, but pulls it mere inches to the left.
We've got more football to play, and the Lions offense will take over with another chance from their own 41-yard line.
Current Score: Texans 31, Lions 31 (Overtime)
The Texans offense moved into scoring range, then the Lions defense pushed the Texans back a bit.
Now, with the game on the line, here comes Shayne Graham for a 51-yard game winner and...

The Lions moved the ball thanks to a huge catch by Ryan Broyles, but a fumble by Brandon Pettigrew makes it Houston ball, and now any score will win it.
They take over close to midfield, and they've earned two first downs since I started typing this.
It's looking bad for the Lions here, they need big defensive plays now.

Matthew Stafford cannot deliver with the game on the line, and we're headed for overtime on Thanksgiving.
This has been a fantastic game, all considered, and now we get to see a little more. Lions fans will lament the fact that they should still be ahead by seven, but that's already in the record books.
As the overtime rules are explained at Ford Field, the crowd boos, but the Lions win the toss and will receive first.
This is the second time in the last four days the Texans have had to play overtime, and they played almost an entire extra quarter of football. You have to think the Lions are favored here, being at home and perhaps not quite as exhausted.

Touchdown Texans!
With time running down, the Texans respond with their best drive of the game.
Pinned inside their own five-yard line, they march down the field, completing a 4th-and-7 play on the way, and move the ball 97 yards for the touchdown.
Arian Foster is the man who cleans it up from one yard out, and we're back to a tie game inside the two-minute warning.
For the second straight game, the Lions will put the ball in the hands of Matthew Stafford with two timeouts and a chance to engineer a scoring drive to win it.
Last week, the Lions fell short.
This week...?

This is not a recording. J.J. Watt comes in on third down to sack Matthew Stafford and force the Lions out of field goal range.
Again.
The Lions punt and down the ball inside the five-yard line, but it's cold comfort for a team that wanted to score after starting with great field position.
Meanwhile, Watt is incredible, with three sacks on the day, two of them likely taking points off the board.
Current Score: Texans 24, Lions 31 (6:49 4Q)

The Lions force yet another three-and-out on the Texans, and Stefan Logan gets blown up on the punt return.
In fact, he got smacked in the head a beat before the ball even got there (that's a penalty).
As a result, the Lions take over near midfield, still up by a touchdown, trying to make this a two-possession game and run some time off the clock in the meantime.
Current Score: Texans 24, Lions 31 (8:23 4Q)

Absolutely huge sack by J.J. Watt on Matthew Stafford.
The Lions had the ball on the 36-yard line, which would have been within Jason Hanson's field goal range, but Watt came from seemingly nowhere to force the sack and put the Lions outside field goal range.
Now the Texans will take over looking to tie the game.
Current Score: Texans 24, Lions 31 (9:56 4Q)
Lions LB Justin Durant has come up big a number of times today, most recently with a third down pass breakup on Owen Daniels.
The Lions will take over and try to build their lead back up to (or beyond) where it was before the blown touchdown call. There's still lots of time for lots of things to happen in this one, and it remains close. Stay tuned.

Touchdown Lions!
The Detroit Lions, in 11 and a half games, had not once run the ball for over 20 yards.
On this drive, Joique Bell did it twice. He carried defenders down the field for a 26-yard gain, then took the ball straight up the middle for 23 yards and a touchdown on which he wasn't even touched.
The Lions didn't look like a team playing with the momentum stolen away. They looked angry and determined.
Maybe we're in for another scoring frenzy like we had in the second quarter?

Field Goal Texans!
The blown call appears to have shifted the momentum back in favor of the Texans, who tie the game on a 45-yard field goal by Shayne Graham.
That ties the game up, as the crowd continues to boo every time any referee speaks or does anything.
Emotions are starting to run exceptionally high both in the crowd and on the field, as this game remains close into the fourth quarter.
Current Score: Texans 24, Lions 24 (0:23 3Q)

Touchdown Texans?
Well, I mean... it's a scoring play, I guess. A big one. One we'll be talking about for the rest of the season.
Justin Forsett runs the ball 81 yards for a touchdown, and he only gained about 75 of them after he was tackled.
Forsett's knees and arm were clearly down on the play, but the referees didn't blow the whistle. Jim Schwartz, in an apparent rage, whipped out the challenge flag. However, since it turned out to be a scoring play, the play was to be automatically reviewed.
That is, apparently, unless a coach throws the challenge flag. That apparently results in a penalty AND negates the review.
So because Schwartz wanted very much to review the play, it won't be, and it's touchdown Texans.
Don't think this is the last time you hear about this.

Field Goal Lions!
Jason Hanson, playing in his 20th Thanksgiving Day game, knocks through a ho-hum 46-yard field goal to extend the Lions lead to the biggest it has been all day.
Rookie Ryan Broyles is making a statement in this game, both to the Lions and to Titus Young, the man whose place he's taking in this game. Broyles helped the Lions down the field, and has four catches for 82 yards already in this one.
Current Score: Texans 14, Lions 24 (6:58 3Q)

The Texans cannot score, or even earn a first down, on the opening drive of the second half, as Cliff Avril earns his second sack of the game.
The Lions have not lead by by than seven points today, but they have a chance to extend that lead on this drive.
But will Wade Phillips' defense have adjusted to the Lions as well as the Lions appear to have adjusted to Houston?
Current Score: Texans 14, Lions 21 (11:54 3Q)

It's halftime at Ford Field, and I had no idea what I was getting into when I asked which offense would warm up first.
It turned out it was both, at the same time.
The second quarter of this game was a defensive coordinator's nightmare, and an absolute blast to watch. This game went from grinding it out to big plays through the air on both sides.
It'll be interesting to see what kinds of defensive adjustments both teams make at halftime, because without them, we might be looking at both teams scoring 40 or more.
Buckle in, because the second half is about to start. The Texans will receive the second half kickoff and try to tie things back up.

Touchdown Lions!
This is why it's hard to quit on the Detroit Lions.
Stefan Logan returns the Texans' kickoff to 41-yard line, Ryan Broyles for 37 yards, Calvin Johnson for 21 and a touchdown.
That's a two-play touchdown drive before you can blink, and the Lions are back on top.
Current Score: Texans 14, Lions 21 (0:25 2Q)

Touchdown Texans!
The back-and-forth continues as the Texans march down the field for a touchdown. That's their second this quarter.
Owen Daniels catches the touchdown from nine yards out, and the Texans knot this thing back up yet again.
The drive was sparked by an unreal 43-yard juggling catch by Andre Johnson, who is matching the Johnson on the other sideline step-for-step in this one.
Current Score: Texans 14, Lions 14 (2:11 2Q)

Touchdown Lions!
The Lions can't run the ball very effectively right now.
Luckily, they've re-discovered Calvin Johnson, who caught three passes for 61 yards on that drive.
However, it was Mike Thomas, the former Jaguar, who finished the drive with a five-yard touchdown catch right in the middle of the end zone.
The Lions re-gain the lead with perhaps one of Matthew Stafford's best drives all season.
Current Score: Texans 7, Lions 14 (6:00 2Q)
