March Madness? Try March Insanity

In my opinion, march madness has always been a little bit too glamorized, a little too domesticated. What I mean by this is that we somehow forget that these players do not get paid (unless their coach happens to be Dave Bliss) and they are students.

Students! I bet you've never read that one before. Now go read a book.

People, including myself, treat student athletes like toys, spraying them all over our brackets, talking about them in way too everyday terms, and chanting homophobic chants at them (well, thats not me).

Therefore, when you see Eric Gordon (who I actually condemn) come into Assembly Hall in Champaign, and you see people throwing drinks at his mother, you wonder what people think college is, a school or WWE?

Not until they turn proffesional should we begin to criticize college players. Why did Yankee fans give A-Rod a hard time two years ago? Because of his contract on steroids.

And why do fans give Greg Paulus, the Duke point guard, so much heckling whenever he plays away from the cameron crazies? Because they can. Because they feel like they have authority for one of the first times in their silly little lives, and they are afraid to yell at proffesionals, so they take it out on kids.
