Martin Kampmann vs. Johny Hendricks: Final Preview and Prediction
Eric Bolte-US PRESSWIRE
There has been a ton of speculation about the fight between these two welterweights. Both of them have the means and the will to end the fight between them in a second.
Johny Hendricks is a wrestler with heavy hands and one-punch knockout power. He uses his takedowns to throw his opponents to the mat, and once there, he unleashes brutal ground-and-pound that has stopped the likes of Amir Sadollah and Charlie Brenneman.
Martin Kampmann is known for his toughness, his excellent Muay Thai and his lethal submissions. He's been on a roll as of late with solid victories over Rick Story, Thiago Alves and Jake Ellenberger.
Kampmann is known to take a lot of punishment in his fights before finding a way to win in the end. This could prove problematic against a power hitter like Hendricks.
Hendricks has also never faced a fighter with such a diverse striking array. Kampmann can hit you with just about anything and make it effective and damage-dealing.
The final prediction for this fight is that after some striking battles in the first round, this fight will find its way to the mat in the second. There I predict that Kampmann's Brazilian jiu-jitsu will overwhelm Hendricks, eventually get the job done and lead into a tight fight-ending submission.
Final Prediction: Kampmann wins via submission in the third round
