WWE Survivor Series 2012: Mid-Card Title Predictions for Marquee PPV
Survivor Series will feature several key matches. CM Punk will defend his WWE Championship against Ryback and John Cena while Team Foley will take on Team Ziggler in the traditional tag team match. But don't overlook the mid-card title matches.
Antonio Cesaro will defend the United States belt against R-Truth, in what should be one of the night's most entertaining matches given both of their antics. And Eve will put the Divas title on the line against Kaitlyn.
Let's take a closer look at both matchups and make a prediction for each.
Antonio Cesaro vs. R-Truth (United States Championship)
Cesaro has done a nice job as champion since winning the belt at SummerSlam. He's been able to illustrate that a superstar doesn't always need a lot of WWE experience to be successful by holding his own in the ring and on the mic.
Who will win the US title match?
Even though the belt has switched hands a lot over the past couple years (only two reigns over 100 days of the past seven), Cesaro deserves a chance to see his extended. He needs an opportunity to prove his gimmick has staying power.
On the flip side, R-Truth hasn't really been booked like a champion until recently. Although putting him into an extended storyline with Cesaro would be a good fit for both guys, making the title switch now would only be done for the sake of a fresh face holding the title.
Don't be surprised if this ends up being one of the best true wrestling matches of the night. Cesaro has shown a lot of potential and R-Truth is a reliable veteran worker. Ultimately, I expect the champion to retain his belt for a while longer.
Prediction: Antonio Cesaro
Eve vs. Kaitlyn (Divas Championship)
For whatever reason, the Divas division continues to get pushed aside. With all the various programs the WWE is putting out on a weekly basis nowadays, there's no reason for the division shouldn't be featured more prominently.
Who will win the Divas title match?
Building more storylines and angles for the Divas would be more interesting than more overexposure of the top superstars. That only leads to burnout among the WWE Universe. It has also limited the upside of Eve's title reign.
She will take on Kaitlyn, one of the few Divas who has been a consistent presence in the title picture in recent months. Based on the way she's been built, at least in the limited time available, it would seem the WWE is hoping she will eventually take Beth Phoenix's spot.
Kaitlyn possesses the same powerful qualities and has improved as a wrestler since her NXT days. While she definitely has a bright future, keeping the belt on Eve is the safer move for now. That's what will likely happen.
