Growing up in the 1980's, the local news had a veritable monopoly on information. Cable television was just a hair below luxury item status, so most households didn't have access to a fledgling CNN or ESPN. And the Internet? It was an experimental playground for computer scientists and computer-obsessed.
So, without the Yahoo! Sports and SportsCenters of the world, we looked to our local sports reporters for even the most mundane details about our favorite teams (at least until the Sunday newspaper). If you're like me, these on-air personalities became familiar faces that you still know by name.
