20 Sexiest Local Sports Broadcasters

Growing up in the 1980's, the local news had a veritable monopoly on information. Cable television was just a hair below luxury item status, so most households didn't have access to a fledgling CNN or ESPN. And the Internet? It was an experimental playground for computer scientists and computer-obsessed.

So, without the Yahoo! Sports and SportsCenters of the world, we looked to our local sports reporters for even the most mundane details about our favorite teams (at least until the Sunday newspaper). If you're like me, these on-air personalities became familiar faces that you still know by name.

Nowadays, it's easy to forget that the local news is still a place for broadcasters to launch their careers. And, slowly but surely, more women are entering the field. While Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson are two obvious examples of sports broadcasters with a national audience who happen to be smokin' hot, they had to start somewhere.

In cities and towns around the nation, plenty of great looking, charismatic ladies are keeping tabs on local sports news. Many of them may very well end up on a national network one day, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve to get a shoutout now.

These are 20 (of the) sexiest local sports broadcasters.

20. Lindsay Murphy, FOX DC

Lindsay Murphy is a graduate of James Madison University and a native of Washington, DC who got her start covering Virginia athletics as an anchor for WVIR in Charlottesville. Murphy was hired by Fox 5 DC in August 2009, where she serves as the weekend sports anchor and hosts Geico Sports Extra three nights a week.

19. Dana Larson, Fox Sports Dallas

Dana Larson is a Colorado native and a Broncos fanatic—she's particularly fanatical about legendary Denver quarterback John Elway. Despite her sports allegiances, Larson has worked for Fox Sports Southwest in Dallas for the last several years.

18. Megan Mawicke, CBS2 Chicago

Megan Mawicke got her undergraduate degree from Indiana University before going on to get her masters at Northwestern. She was also a collegiate tennis player who competed on the WTA professional tour for a period of time before going on to a career as sports journalist. Mawicke got her start covering politics in Washington, DC before moving back to her hometown to cover sports for CBS 2 Chicago.

17. Kristen Berset, WUSA9 Washington

Kristen Berset is a former beauty queen and a graduate of the University of Florida. She got her start working at local Florida affiliates before moving on to become the weekend sports anchor at WBFF in Baltimore. In May 2012, WUSA9 Washington announced Berset had been hired as a sports anchor and the host of of Sunday Sports Plus.

16. Katie Witham, Sports Time Ohio

Katie Witham has been working as a sports reporter and broadcaster for nearly four years. Witham is currently a freelance anchor who has been working with Sports Time Ohio, Major League Soccer, the Cleveland Indians, Fox Sports and the Big Ten Network in recent years.

15. Meredith Marakovits, YES Network

Meredith Marakovits is a graduate of La Salle University in Philadelphia, where she got her start in broadcasting covering minor league baseball. Marakovits worked for Comcast SportsNet in Philly for a few years before being hired by the YES Network in New York in March 2012 to cover the Yankees.

14. Nicole Darin, Comcast Washington

When popular sports reporter Kelli Johnson left Comcast SportsNet DC for the Houston area, she was replaced by Nicole Darin in November 2012. Darin had been working as a freelance reporter prior to her full-time position and has worked at local affiliates in Tampa and Colorado Springs as well.

13. Jessica Moran, Comcast Boston

Jessica Moran was born and raised in New England before traveling south to earn her degree at the University of Tampa in Florida. Moran got her start working as a sports reporter at local affiliates in El Paso and Rapid City before being hired by Comcast SportsNet New England in September 2009.

12. Sarah Kustok, YES Network

Sarah Kustok is a graduate of DePaul University, where she was a basketball star before graduating in 2004. She spent three years working at CSN Chicago covering various sports in the Windy City before being hired by the YES Network in 2012 to cover the Nets. Kustok has also worked as a sideline reporter for ESPN and the NBC Sports Network.

Priya Desai is a graduate of Indiana University, where she got her start in journalism covering the firing of coach Bobby Knight for the IU newspaper. Desai landed an internship at College Sports Television after graduation being hired as a sports reporter for NY1 news in New York City.

10. Kelli Johnson, Comcast Sports Houston

Kelli Johnson is a graduate of the University of Idaho, where she was a four-year starter for the women's basketball team. She got her start working at local affiliates in Austin and St. Louis before being hired by Comcast in 2004. In September 2012, the network announced that Johnson was leaving the D.C. area to anchor SportsNet Central in Houston.

9. Tina Cervasio, MSG Network New York

Tina Cervasio is a graduate of the University of Maryland and got her start on NESN Boston as a field reporter for the Red Sox. She was hired by MSG in 2008 and has since served as an actor for the daily sports show MSG, NY and is a sideline reporter for the Knicks.

8. Abbey Way, 93.7 the Fan Pittsburgh

Abbey Way was born and raised in Pittsburgh and was a high school athlete before going on to receive her journalism degree from East Carolina University. Currently, she works as a producer at 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh, but she's also a writer and an aspiring on-air reporter.

Johanna Gomez is a graduate of Florida International University, a former Dolphins cheerleader and Heat dancer, and she was crowned Miss Miami Dominican Republican in 1999. She currently works for WPLG Miami and serves as an in-game host for Marlins Vision during weekend home games during the MLB season.

Jenny Dell was hired to replace Heidi Watney as one of the resident Red Sox reporters in early 2012. She's a UMass graduate who started her work in sports behind the scenes in production at ESPN before transitioning into an on-air career.

Kavita Channe is a University of Florida graduate who has been making a name for herself in Miami sports over the last few years. In addition to her weekly sports vlog, Channe was hired as a sideline reporter for Fox Sports in 2012 and is a frequent contributing guest on local sports radio.

1. Sarah Spain, ESPN Chicago

ESPN Chicago's Sarah Spain was an all-star athlete in a number of sports growing up in Illinois and went on to attend the Ivy League's Cornell University. Spain returned to Chicago after graduation and worked for Chicago Now and WGN-TV before being hired to anchor SportsCenter for ESPN 1000.
