There is no doubt that the New York Jets have made an abundance of moves in order to improve the team for next year. The question isn't about next year... but what about beyond?
Let's take a look. The first big move was signing Alan Faneca, the star guard from the Pittsburgh Steelers, for a huge contract. By huge, I mean way too big for a player that is old by NFL standards.
Then, the Jets traded Jonathan Vilma, their young star linebacker, to the New Orleans Saints for practically nothing. How is that for looking ahead?
Earlier this week, the Jets signed former Green Bay tight end Bubba Franks to a one year deal, seeming incredibly pointless to me considering that current tight end Chris Baker has been doing a decent job.
So, I am worried that the Jets have felt too obliged to pull a "Yankee" move, such as acquiring Randy Johnson or Kevin Brown. These sorts of moves really worry me because they show a lack of obligation to the franchise, and instead demonstrates an obligation to gaining profit.
Also, the Jets have a phenomenal draft pick where they will have a chance to sign the standout halfback Darren McFadden, a move which I think would be undeniably wise, considering the lack of starpower on the Jets, meaning that they do not have any gamechangers.
The biggest problem I have with the way the Jets are handling this off-season is that they are wasting this upcoming season in that I would be very surprised if they were to make the playoffs, but at the same time, I don't expect them to be terrible, which is basically abandoning a higher draft pick and an opportunity to gain starpower.

uhhh jets didnt sign alge crumpler. we signed bubba franks to a one year deal to be the back up for baker.
our "star" linebacker in vilma does not fit our 3-4 defense scheme and has looked lost in it ever since we switched to it with mangini.
fact is, even though we are signin these veterans, it is to IMPROVE our team. we have all this money and we are FINALLY using it on quality players. we have one of the youngest teams in the league even with these moves. we were horrible at these positions last year and all these guys we are signing are HUGE upgrades to what we had before.
get your facts straight before you post stuff like this.

Editor please spank this scribe for his inaccurate article, I didn't know Jets signed Alge Crumpler, thought it was Bubba Franks.
Alana Faneca by the way is still in his prime and is with Steve Hutnchinson the 2 best LGuards in the game. Placing alongside D'Brick and Nick Mangold makes the Jets leftside of the line amongst the strongest in the league-transforming a weakness into an outright strength. Also Richardson the pro-bowl full back will open up running lanes for the Jets RBs whether its TJones/Leon Washington or if they draft Run DMC. Damien Woody is another improvement to the offensive line. Kris Jenkins is a nasty addition at nosetackle with Calvin Pace provided a much needed passrushing threat.
All in all a tremendous upgrade.
Please do some research before posting lousy article

The Jets are putting their fans through the vicious cycle again
This latest run on free agents confirms the fact that they have no long-term plan in place
if this fails, and it most likely will, what's the next move?
from 5 months ago
This is a different NFL - there is no long term plan ... You can't cultivate an NFL player like you used to due to the new cap. It's impossible. Teams are forced to "reload"... Nobody said anything when the Patriots did it last year right?
from 5 months ago
Of course not, because they now what they are doing...the Jets try something for 2 years - and it fails- and then abandon it for another plan - which never works.....they don't have the discipline to see plans through
that's all I'm saying.....

Ethan. While I appreciate your article as I'm always looking for news on the Jets, you need to do better next time. Call somebody in tune with the team, an avid fan, anyboby!
It is the opinion of most Jets fans that these off season moves are a definite improvement and a departure from previous years where they have attempted to grab "value" players.
I'm very excited about this coming season and am hoping that they can address a few more positions like CB, QB, WR.
Go Jets!
