Jeff Gordon: Is the No. 24 Team Back on Top?

Robert PritchettContributor IMarch 17, 2009

Jeff Gordon is now on top of the points standings.

Is Gordon back to make a credible run for his fifth championship?

He seems to be.

Over the last four races, Gordon's car has handled well, better than last year.

Gordon seems to complain less about how bad his car is, drives to the front, and is competing for wins. Maybe work over the winter on the car, and help from Jimmy Johnson and his crew chief, could have given the No. 24 team the edge they need.

Although his qualifying is not stellar, Gordon's finishes have been. If he can keep up the momentum, he will definitely make the Chase and maybe start near the top.

With a few wins, and some good luck, championship No. 5 right now does not seem unreasonable.
