New Orleans Saints Add a Little Spice(r) to the Defense

Paul Augustin, Jr.Senior Analyst IMarch 17, 2009

The New Orleans Saints have added former Jacksonville Jaguar defensive end Paul Spicer to their retooling defense.

Spicer is the second former Jaguar defensive end the Saints have signed in as many seasons.  Last season, New Orleans signed Bobby McCray.

Spicer's 21 sacks during the past four seasons are more than Charles Grant's 14.5 sacks over the same time period.

He has started at least 10 games during each of the past four seasons.  Spicer will at least bring quality depth to a position that has lacked fire power over the past several seasons.

His starting experience will serve the Saints well since both Grant and Will Smith likely will serve a four-game suspension during the 2009 season.
