Racism in Holland: “[Marko Arnautovic] called me a nigger” - Ibrahim Kargbo

Accusations really don’t get bigger than this.

Willem II have thrown their support behind their Sierra Leone defender Ibrahim Kargbo after he accused FC Twente forward Marko Arnautovic of making a racist remark during their Eredivisie match on Saturday.

Twente ran out 2-0 winners, with Arnautovic scoring the second, but Kargbo’s claims threaten to overshadow the result as in his post match interview the centre-half made public that he was called “a nigger” by the Austrian forward.

Following the match Steve McClaren was quizzed on the incident, with the Twente boss saying “I can’t say anything about it because I don’t know what happened and because I haven’t spoken with Marko yet. I could only speculate. But let one thing be clear, I don’t accept racism in general. Not in my team, not in the club and not in my surroundings.”

Ibrahim Kargbo’s no-holds-barred post-match interview can be seen here.

Footage of how the incident came about can be seen six minutes into this video.

Steve McClaren’s post match interview, in which the local reporter showed the former England manager the television images forcing the Twente coach to give his immediate opinion of the incident (which he repeatedly refused to do) can be seen here.
