Due to server problems with Pick 4 Blog, we’re back to where it all started for at least today. Maybe the temporary home can change the luck we’ve had through the first three days of the Hollywood Park meet and we can get back to the winning ways that have seen profits of over $15,000 since the day after Christmas in 2010.
Juvenile fillies are spotlighted in the $100,000 Sharp Cat Stakes with Scarlet Strike the 8-to-5 morning line favorite against six others travelling 1 1/16-miles on Cushion Track in a race that is part of a Pick-6 sequence where there is a carryover of just under $116,000 and the pool should eclipse half a million dollars.
After making up 17 lengths when breaking her maiden at Del Mar, the daughter of Smart Strike was the runner-up in the Chandelier Stakes (Grade I) at Santa Anita finishing over six lengths behind Executiveprivilege, who suffered her first defeat when second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) last week.
A winner in 4-of-5 starts to begin her career while amassing earnings of $332,560, Tilde is the 5-to-2 second choice. The Cal-bred daughter of Swiss Yodeler has won three consecutive stakes against state-breds, but should find the waters much more difficult moving back into open company where she suffered her only defeat in June.
Two runners exiting maiden scores are also worth a look, with Rhodium the 5-to-1 third choice looking to repeat her wire-to-wire score from Santa Anita’s dirt main track, and Wittgenstein the co-fourth choice at 6-to-1 moving back to a synthetic surface after a stylish win on Santa Anita’s turf.
We’re off to the races!
Late Pick 4 -
Leg 1 – Race 6 (1,5) – In a difficult sequence, we begin with a pair of runners drawn best over this mile on turf with a short run into the first turn.
No. 1 Secret Motive gets a massive rider upgrade to Garrett Gomez on the stretch out and can save all the ground while tracking the leaders, while No. 5 Sharp Bella tries again for a wire job after just tiring last time in her first route try.
Leg 2 – Race 7 (ALL) – Use all nine of these mid-level $16,000 claimers in this wide-open sprint heat.
Leg 3 – Race 8 (1,3,4,7) – We’re skeptical of No. 6 Tilde despite her impressive record so we’ll leave her off and use No. 1 Scarlet Strike, No. 3 Rhodium, No. 4 Wittgenstein and No. 7 Renee’s Titan.
Leg 4 – Race 9 (3,4,6,8,12,16) – Bottom-level maiden claimers close the week and we spread with No. 3 Hello Stormy, No. 4 Tiz a Daisy, No. 6 No Mistress, No. 8 Valeria, No. 12 Lily’s Tiz and No. 16 Can’tbeattheheat.
Recap – (1,5) w (ALL) w (1,3,4,7) w (3,4,6,8,12,16) – Total cost of ticket = $216
Yesterday’s Result – (-$180)
Total for current Hollywood Park meet – (-$552)
Total from 12/26/10 – 11/4/12 – (-$1,006.45)
Pick 5 –
Leg 1 – Race 1 (3,4) – No. 3 Promiscuoussuances can be effective pressing the early pace, while No. 4 drops in class off the layoff over a layout where she’s done her best running.
Leg 2 - Race 2 (1,2,4,8) – Bottom-level claimers stagger home after breaking from the Costco parking lot and we’ll use the quartet of No. 1 Colledimezzo, No. 2 Asset Play, No. 4 Bluegrass Reward and No. 8 Miles Heir.
Leg 3 – Race 3 (1,2,4,7,8) – Cal-bred juveniles in the maiden allowance sprint where we spread with No. 1 Back to Bako, No. 2 Star Rocker, No. 4 Tiz a Minister, No. 7 Judge Carr and No. 8 Gallant Charm.
Leg 4 – Race 4 (1,2,4,6) – No. 2 Roses for Joni has crumbled in her last two, but could be tough as lone speed today. Rafael Bejarano jumps ship to No. 4 Toomanytomatoes, so we’ll use as well along with No. 1 Stormin Cee’s and No. 6 Always a Chance.
Leg 5 – Race 5 (1,3) – Our best bet when he disappointed in his last, we’ll come right back with No. 1 Rock Off moving back to Martin Pedroza after a dreadful ride by Alonso Quinonez. There’s plenty of speed lined up for him to run down and when last seen over this strip he broke his maiden by over seven lengths in July.
Double up with No. 3 Chicsdigtheshark, who has improved in a big way since moving to the barn of Bill Spawr and could be the quickest early.
Recap – (3,4) w (1,2,4,8) w (1,2,4,7,8) w (1,2,4,6) w (1,3) – Total cost of ticket = $160
Yesterday’s Result – (-$120)
Total for current Hollywood Park meet – (-$435)
Total from 7/20/11 – 11/4/12 - (+$16,685.25)
