Cristiano Ronaldo: Ranking the 5 Worst Moments of His Real Madrid Career
He is a serious contender for the current Ballon d'Or award for 2013. At the same time, Ronaldo has his worst moments in Real Madrid like any player regardless of team affiliation..
An invitation is sent to B/R readers to look at the current slideshow concerning Ronaldo. It deals with the five worst moments of his Real Madrid career.
Please feel free to sit down, relax and enjoy the slideshow.
5. Sevilla vs. Real Madrid, Sept. 2012
Ronaldo attempted another free kick within stoppage time, which proved devastating for the team. The ball went over the crossbar and Ronaldo felt frustrated with the results.
The result was part of Real Madrid's worst start of the 2012-13 La Liga season.
4. Getafe vs. Real Madrid, August 2012
3. Dynamo Zagreb vs. Real Madrid, UEFA Champions League, Sept. 2011
Ronaldo's worst moment was during an interview after Real Madrid defeated Dynamo Zagreb at a UEFA Champions League match. The match and interview took place in Croatia on September of 2011.
According to AS with a h/t to the New York Daily News, Ronaldo was subjected to taunts during the field. After Real Madrid defeated Dynamo Zagreb, Ronaldo was questioned as to why he was taunted.
The response of Ronaldo was that "people are envious because I am rich, handsome and a great player." This moment lead certain people to think of Ronaldo as a conceited person.
Ruud van Nistelrooy thought otherwise in an interview with Algemeen Dagblad (a Dutch magazine) with a h/t to ESPN Star. Regardless, the incident does not help Ronaldo.
2. Real Madrid vs. Borussia Dortmund, UEFA Champions League, Nov. 2012
Ronaldo was unable to take advantage to score a goal for Real Madrid. It appeared that Ronaldo and Higuain were having problems in the field, according to Goal.
1. Levante vs. Real Madrid, November 2012
While Ronaldo scored for Real Madrid and the team won, this was his worst moment. During the match, Ronaldo was elbowed by opposing player David Navarro.
According to the Daily Mail, Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho claimed that Ronaldo had visual problems in both eyes. Because of the injury, Sports Illustrated reported that Ronaldo will be unable to represent Portugal in its match against Gabon.
Goal reported that Navarro apologized to Ronaldo via text, saying that the accident was not intentional. While it may be debatable, an eye injury counts as one of the worst moments in Ronaldo's or any athlete's career.
According to WebMD, eye trauma may cause hyphema, which is bleeding inside the front area of the eye. An article published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine reported a fracture of the eye orbit secondary to a hit from the elbow.
It is hoped that Ronaldo recovers as soon as possible from his eye injury. The personal opinion comes from the fact that I once had an eye injury while playing basketball.
The following slideshow is a personal opinion concerning Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid. My thanks to the B/R readers for their time in viewing the slideshow.
