NFL Predictions: 5 Bold Upsets for Week 10
One of the best things about the NFL is that on any given Sunday one team can beat another.
It is easy to write off some of the worst teams in football at this point in the season.
The Jacksonville Jaguars were a perfect example of a team that has given up on the season as they were trashed on national television by Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts. However, not every team is like the Jaguars.
There are other teams that do not have a winning record, but they are still leaving it all on the field. That is the type of team that highlights the Five Bold Upsets for Week 10 in the NFL.
Carolina Panthers (+4) over Denver Broncos
The Carolina Panthers have fallen on hard times with quarterback Cam Newton in the midst of the dreaded sophomore slump, but that could all change this week.
The latest NFL odds have the Panthers as home underdogs in this AFC-NFC tilt.
The Panthers are riding high after a victory on the road against the Washington Redskins. They also have a matchup edge on offense, as Denver will put rookie LB Danny Trevathan on TE Greg Olsen.
The Panthers have a good pass rush led by the defensive end duo of Greg Hardy and Charles Johnson that can force Manning into mistakes.
The end result will be a close game that the Panthers have a good chance of winning.
Prediction: Carolina 27, Denver 20
Cincinnati Bengals (+3.5) over New York Giants
Both teams are coming off a loss a week ago, but the pressure sits squarely on the Cincinnati Bengals.
They have lost four straight and are one loss away from falling out of contention for a playoff berth and endangering the job of head coach Marvin Lewis. The Bengals are just one of many live underdogs on this week's schedule.
That subpar play is the reason the NFL odds have the Bengals as 3.5-point home underdogs.
Giants quarterback Eli Manning has not looked sharp of late. He has completed fewer than 50 percent of his passes in the last two games and has failed to find the end zone.
The Giants' defense is beatable in the secondary, a strong indication that Andy Dalton and A.J. Green will have a big game.
The Giants are 1-4 against the spread when they play losing teams. They will come into this game unmotivated and leave the door open for a big upset by the Bengals.
Prediction: Bengals 20, Giants 17
New Orleans (+1) over Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons don’t get any respect, even though they have yet to lose a game heading into Week 10 of the season.
The NFL odds reflect that lack of respect, labeling the Falcons as only one-point favorites.
That disrespect will continue this week when the New Orleans Saints hand the Falcons their first loss.
Falcons wide receiver Roddy White fueled the rivalry by ranting about his hatred for the Saints.
I don’t like nothing about the Saints. The colors. The city. Nothing. But they’ve got some good food, though. Other than the food, nothing.
This game could get ugly. The Falcons want revenge for the Saints running up the score against them last year in an attempt to set team offensive records, while the Saints are playing for their playoff lives.
The Saints have been a great bet at home in the dome since Drew Brees has come to town. The Saints are 14-3 against the spread (ATS) in their last 17 home games and 11-1 ATS in their last 12 home games against a team with a winning road record.
The points won’t matter. The Saints will beat the Falcons and add another chapter to this storied rivalry.
Prediction: Saints 33, Falcons 30
New York Jets (+6) over Seattle Seahawks
Seattle has impressed this year and has one of the toughest home-field advantages in the NFL, but the Seahawks will get upset on Sunday.
The improved play from the Seahawks has encouraged the NFL oddsmakers to make the birds six-point favorites over the Jets.
Running back Marshawn Lynch will suit up, but he is hurting with several injuries and could be vulnerable to the Jets' hard-hitting defense. In fact, the Seahawks had a season-high 13 players on the injury report heading into this game.
This will put plenty of pressure on rookie quarterback Russell Wilson, who is struggling of late. When pressured, Wilson will fold and the Jets will go all out to keep Wilson running.
The Jets enter this game off a bye week and are well-rested and in need of a win. The Jets are 4-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last five games following a loss and will pull off the bold upset in Week 10.
Prediction: Jets 14, Seahawks 10
Buffalo Bills (+11) over New England Patriots
The Bills are double-digit underdogs and sitting in the basement of the AFC East. With all of those obstacles in front of this team, it has yet to give up. The Bills are only two games out of first in the division and a win against the Patriots would go a long way to get them back in the race.
They upset the Patriots last year and are confident they can play with Tom Brady this Sunday.
Unlike other teams, the Patriots are a bad bet after a bye week. The Patriots are 1-3-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last five games following a bye week and 1-4 ATS in their last five home games.
The Bills had a lead (21-7) in the first meeting, but they could not hold on. The Bills' defense has improved since then and looked much better against the Houston Texans a week ago.
It’s the Patriots' defense that has the problems. The Patriots will have a big mismatch problem against CJ Spiller who has beaten this defense in the past.
The Bills are a steal at +11 and will pull off the upset of the week.
Prediction: Bills 38, Patriots 35
